“My sweetheart and I went here on our second date. The original plan was to meet at Dead King Bread in Manyunk, and then hike in the Wissahickon. Dead King was closed, however, and my sweetheart quickly suggested Roma Cafe as an alternative. I'm ashamed to say that I never knew about this bakery. When I think of Italian bakeries, I typically think of South Philly. This is the real deal. An interior that harkens back to earlier times, and probably owners that harken back to an earlier time!

It was here that I discovered that my sweetheart is extravagant with treats, especially sweets. As a bit of a minimalst, I chose a rather bland biscuit. He chose an array of half a dozen treats, including canolies.

When we eventually made our way to the Wissahickon, we discovered that we had each packed more treats for the hike - cheese, grapes. He brought the most wonderful brie from Trader Joes that was as soft and gooey as if you had baked it in the oven. I noted with approval that he was equipped with a good picnic bag, as was I.

As we walked through the Wissahickon, I was captivated by his friendliness to everyone we passed on the trails, including the dogs.

Everything was delicious, and I appreciated that the canolis were petite in size!“

The cake we had envisioned was a three-layer cake, with each layer representing a generation. Frosted Fox turned it into reality. The cake looked amazing and tasted wonderful. “First time trying crumbl and this location was close by so we stopped in. I didn’t like it was only a few selections to choose from saying though we wanted to give our honest review. They were nice and warm I can say and great presentation. I just wish I could have tried more flavors. The churro was my favorite by far and the cookies an cream cheesecake not so much. I go to the farmers markets specifically for this bread. Philadelphia has a number of great new small bakeries but Ursa is at the top!“

“This is kind of a mixed review. I placed an order from Holmesburg bakery using Uber Eats for the first time. I ordered 2 cream donuts, and a blueberry muffin. The donuts were amazing. Cream was light and fluffy, donuts were fresh and airy. However, the Muffin... The muffin was hard, cold, sticky, and had a pasty consistency. The taste was rancid. I only took one bite, and had to spit it out. There was a distinct freezer burn flavor, and an under taste of something fishy... Im not exaggerating. my dog sniffed the muffin, and backed away from it. Even a dog found it unappealing. I don't know if it was a mistake, a broken refrigerator, or a muffin that was left in the freezer months past it's date... but it was foul, and I will never make that mistake again. I'll just stick to donuts from here from now on. Those are amazingly delicious.“
