Gina and her staff are so sweet and friendly, that the “Sweets” of their Sweets on Darby name refers as much to the people as it does to the delightful pastries she bakes. “My sweetheart and I went here on our second date. The original plan was to meet at Dead King Bread in Manyunk, and then hike in the Wissahickon. Dead King was closed, however, and my sweetheart quickly suggested Roma Cafe as an alternative. I'm ashamed to say that I never knew about this bakery. When I think of Italian bakeries, I typically think of South Philly. This is the real deal. An interior that harkens back to earlier times, and probably owners that harken back to an earlier time!

It was here that I discovered that my sweetheart is extravagant with treats, especially sweets. As a bit of a minimalst, I chose a rather bland biscuit. He chose an array of half a dozen treats, including canolies.

When we eventually made our way to the Wissahickon, we discovered that we had each packed more treats for the hike - cheese, grapes. He brought the most wonderful brie from Trader Joes that was as soft and gooey as if you had baked it in the oven. I noted with approval that he was equipped with a good picnic bag, as was I.

As we walked through the Wissahickon, I was captivated by his friendliness to everyone we passed on the trails, including the dogs.

Our family brought a variety for Easter dessert and they were the best cupcakes I have had in a very long time! Even better…they are PEANUT FREE!!!! “I recently discovered a pastry shop that has quickly become one of my favorites! Their desserts are nothing short of perfection—perfectly sweetened, allowing all the flavors to shine through. In a world where it's hard to find such quality, this place stands out.

I also ordered a custom cake for our gender reveal party, and it was a true masterpiece. Not only was it beautifully designed, but it was also incredibly delicious. I can't recommend this shop enough!

“I go there to buy the tomato pie. I never buy less than two boxes which is a quarter pie each with nine slices sprinkled with cheese. I never thought to take a picture. Maybe I will next time and I’ll update this. They make the most amazing tomato pie! I did purchase a piece of baklava from them yesterday. I can can’t speak to how it tasted, but it was beautiful as I gave it away.“

My granddaughter daughter talked about Mochi donuts ? and booba teas.. we got so much, from donuts, smooties to hot cheeto corn dogs.. everything was delicious. Not to mention, my daughter left her purse there early in the day (yes we we twice in 1 day ??‍♀️) and we didn't know it. Customer service was excellent. Atmosphere is very welcoming. Also love the art work on the wall.“

“I wanted to leave a review to both rave about your fantastic baked goods and to thank you. My Mom suffered with gluten intolerance and then celiacs. This took away her ability to enjoy some of her favorite foods. We tried to find substitutes at the local grocery stores but nothing really took the place of her favorite baked goods. Finding you was a miracle! She loved your cookies, bread and Pumpkin Pie!! She looked forward to me bringing home her favorites and surprises like your pretzels and cinnamon buns each week. Stopped by today and got the cheesesteak with sauce and onions, and the buffalo chicken cheesesteak just to try it out. It was absolutely delicious! “got a 6-pack, first time trying (had a gift card). i'd say it's worth the money if you're getting one cookie as a snack, or you're getting a pack for a sizeable group of people to share. both my wife and i tapped out after eating 1 cookie (chocolate chip - delicious), when at insomnia we'd usually eat 2-3 each for a dessert. if you don't like thicker cookies, these are not for you - though it has a cookie texture, they're almost like mini cakes. but again, if you're looking for a more filling cookie, i'd pay the extra $1 to get it over insomnia's.“

“I’ve been meaning to go to this cafe/bakery here for a while and seriously regret not visiting sooner, amazing desserts, pastries, cookies, all made on-site. I got a few things, including a box of mid-autumn festival mooncakes, which are absolutely amazing: delicate, filled with rich custard and a nicely blended egg-yolk paste. They didn’t have extra menus for me to take so I took photos of their current selection. There are a few tables there for you to enjoy your desserts on-site. Again, love the desserts, will be back to try different flavors!“

Second, I appreciate their business practices. Just yesterday, I ordered some cookies, and although they usually ship the next day, they weren't able to get into the shop due to the ice. I received a thoughtful phone call from a man named Mike. He informed me that they typically do not ship on Fridays, but given the inclement weather, they would be making an exception. “I needed a gluten free product and they not only had them readily available, they were excellent. I had purchased rustic wheat and Italian breads at D’Iinocenzo’s previously for holidays and everyone was very pleased. The service was very good and the staff was were very helpful.

“Love this little bakery! It's a hidden gem. They carry many authentic Mexican food items and its the only panaderia I can find in the area. The service is always exceptional. During my last visit, my twins were being rambunctious, and the employee gave them a free treat to distract them while I finished picking my items. The tamales de rajas con queso is honestly the best I have had in my life, including many I have tried in Mexico. Check them out!“
