Caramel Chews

“If you pass through Gettysburg, and you share my sweet tooth, Kilwins is a must stop!We initially ran in the door hoping to find some hot chocolates to fortify us for an evening ghost tour. When we the opened the door, the smell of the fresh baking waffle cones and waffle bowls was like a bit of heaven on Earth. I inquired about hot chocolate, but at first they apologized and said the steamer hadn't been on because of the nkce weather. No problem we said, and started planning our other treats from the amazing cases. While, even better, while we were shopping, they offered to turn the steamer on if we had five or ten minutes to hang out and let it heat up. So three ice creams, a carmel apple, three hot chocolates, and a dark chocolate pecan caramel patty later, we headed out, well provisioned for our tour, and super happy with the awesome customer service.Well, let me tell you, the hot chocolates were amazing, the ice cream and still warm waffle bowls, fantastic, and the candies damn near perfect.Everything was so good, that we had to make a special trip the next day. This time, three ice creams, a milkshake, and a few more candies, including carmels, made practically in front of my eyes. We also got to catch the fresh made carmel apples coming out of the dip, and several big blocks of just made fudge were chilling on the confectioners table.I just don't think you can get treats more fresh or delicious. I wish I had snapped a few more pictures of the actual processes going on, but I was too busy chatting candy, and scouts, and gettysburg, and buffalo with the staff, and just plain forgot.Anyhow, just one more time, if you get to Gettysburg, get to Kilwins. Oh, and apparently, Kilwins is a small franchise, so if you come across one elsewhere in your travels, make sure you stop. If it's anything like the Gettysburg location, you'll be glad that you did.Kid-friendliness: Lots of options for kids of course, and super friendly staff“

Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard Ice Cream Shop • $$
523 Baltimore St, Gettysburg

“Rita's is located in a perfect area behind O'Roarks and has a small parking lot that belongs to the restaurant. There is a parking lot across the street that I recommend because there is no street parking due to a fire 2-3 years as they rehabilitate the building. The parking lot across the street has always been a tow zone. As for Rita's, they offer everything that every location offers and they are nice no matter how long the line. They have over the last years run out of ingredients but that is just a time to try something new. It depends on our mood if we come here or go to a local ice cream shop (which I mostly prefer). During the main tourist season expect a long line for your tasty treats.“

“The girls behind the counter were working hard to keep customers moving and fill their orders. The mango slushie was an excellent choice on such a hot day. It was very nice of the DQ to allow CMA to set up an aide/water station for all the bikers heading to/from Gettysburg Bike Week. That is very much appreciated!“

“S'mores This was my favorite! Marshmallow-y ice cream with specks of Graham crackers and a fudge swirl. Absolutely delicious!Butter PecanButtery and creamy! I love how thick and creamy the ice cream was. It's cute that they weigh the cups to make sure you have consistent scoops. Waffle cone piece was a nice garnish. Local cows makes this place great! It gives me Penn State vibes. I don't know what they feed the cows out in PA to make the ice cream that dang good. Looks like an office building, make sure you look for the road sign so you don't pass it by. #CynBitesThisFeedsMySoulStatus“
