“We are not fans of chain restaurants. We like mom and pop shops and love supporting local eateries. Our first time trying Feed Your Soul for dinner tonight. We will definitely be back. I had the jumbo lump crab cake with baked mac n cheese, green beans, and cornbread. The only restaurant we have ever been to where black cherry Kool-aid was an option. I felt like I was eating a meal in my Grandma's kitchen! The customer service was wonderful!“

“DA SLAP BOX earned this one.

A couple weeks ago, I had such a bad experience somewhere else that I honestly swore off yams altogether. That's how disappointed I was. So when I walked into DA SLAP BOX, I was hoping for the best.

What I got was one of the best soul food plates I've had in a long time.

I ordered the pork chop dinner with mac and cheese, pasta salad and fried cabbage. My husband ordered the shrimp dinner with sweet potatoes, and potato salad. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was right. The music was playing, people were enjoying themselves, and the whole place had a welcoming energy that made you feel comfortable before the food even hit the table.

Then the food arrived.

Let's start with the pork chops. Those weren't little thin pork chops. They were hefty, fried perfectly, and somehow still incredibly tender. Not a lot of places can pull that off. The flavor immediately reminded me of the pork chops my late grandmother used to make. Nobody can truly recreate her cooking, but DA SLAP BOX got close enough that it brought back memories I hadn't felt in a long time. I actually stopped eating pork chops regularly after she passed away last year because nothing ever measured up. This was the first time I felt like ordering them again.

The fried cabbage was outstanding. One bite took me straight back to Saturday nights when my grandmother's husband would be in the kitchen frying cabbage and fish while the smell filled the entire house. That's not something you can fake. That's comfort food.

Now let's talk about the sweet potatoes.

These sweet potatoes redeemed sweet potatoes for me.

I was genuinely hesitant to try them because of a terrible experience I'd had recently elsewhere. My husband told me to take a bite anyway. The second I did, I knew I was coming back. They were sweet, flavorful, fresh, and exactly what sweet potatoes are supposed to be. Instead of reminding me why I stopped ordering them, they reminded me why I used to love them in the first place.

I also tried some of the shrimp and potato salad from my husband's plate. Both were excellent. I still have some pasta salad in the refrigerator, and if it's anywhere near the quality of everything else we had, I already know it's going to be good.

The best part? Two dinner plates, an extra side, and plenty of food for around $45-$46. In today's economy, that's a deal, especially considering the quality and portion sizes.

My only tiny suggestion would be adding a piece of bread with the pork chop dinner. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints.

DA SLAP BOX didn't miss, they reminded me what good soul food is supposed to taste like.

I'll definitely be back, and next time I'm trying the green beans.“

“So I read the reviews and I was a bit skeptical. However, we put in a large order for my entire team at work and we were all blown away at how delicious everything was!! I mean the whole order didn't miss a thing! Extremely flavorful food cooked perfectly. Not to mention we were met at the register with prompt and professional service, contrary to some reviews we read prior. Sure, it's a tiny little whole in the wall ..but the real ones know that's always where you find the best food!!

We all shared everything, but a few things were particularly DELICIOUS AND WORTH RECOMMENDING:
- Whiting
- Jumbo Shrimp
- Baked Salmon
- Hush Puppies
- Sweet Potato
- Rice Pilaf

Next time we order, I'll make sure to add photos to the review!!“
