I started with the tortilla soup, then had the fish tacos and to drink I tried the strawberry Jarritos and a sip of their margarita which I’d have again on a warm day ☀️ Everything was delicious, the staff was patient and courteous. I felt very comfortable and I’m already planning my next visit for the springtime!“

Went for my birthday this weekend - absolutely amazing experience!

Not only was the food 10/10 (amazing spicy sauce maison, and best fajitas I’ve ever had), but the service, and the bartender’s spicy
Margaritas were second to none.

Reservation by phone. On location, not a cat. Only us and the only staff/front of house/cook/etc. Menu: extensive. Atmosphere: drama in Spanish on the TV. Decor: inside your parents house. Not wheelchair accessible. Bring your own wine/beer. Food made on order. Came pretty quick. Good portions. Tasty. Had the restaurant for ourselves until 20:00 came. Then 11 + 2 came at once. Staff overwhelmed but did his job.

Good prices.

TL;DR: come with good company, good wine or beer, and patience and enjoy the pupusas.“

But the best part is that they have a grocery part with products that are kind of hard to find unless you live near those latino grocery stores in Montreal. Authentic and Mexican. “REAL Mexican food, delicious and authentic. When I went through the door I felt the scent of a home made meal, took me back to my childhood at grandma’s house in Michoacán. My food was cooked at the moment and it was on the table surprisingly fast. I ordered “enchiladas Rojas” and they were the real thing! I asked for some extra spicy salsa, they brought red and green salsas, not too spicy but great taste, and the salsa macha is almost better than my mom’s. I’m going back with my kids to try the carnitas 🤤“

“My Fiancé and I went to El Gordo for the first time after reading online reviews. We were pleasantly surprised and agreed with the positive feedback. We found the atmosphere to be relaxed which was what we were looking for . The Sunday special for 2 of Chicken or Tofu Fajitas was our choice for our first visit ( but definitely not our last ) & we were very happy with it. It was delicious and a generous sizzling pan with the usual accompaniments of 8 soft Tacos , Pico de Gallo, Sour Cream, and Salsa . We chose a bottle of their house wine which was an Organic Bio Tempranillo from Spain. The price was very reasonable.

For dessert we had the traditional Churros and Flan and were happy with both along with an Americano/ Canadiano.

The service was exceptional, courteous, friendly , made us feel like honoured guests or family. We were especially happy with our server , Simon who is a definite asset to your Restaurant. He has the perfect personality for the service profession.
We would also like to give a shout-out to Malik. He too is great in the service profession. Personality wise, these two rate a 5/5 + 🌟⭐️

We will be returning and cannot wait for Summer Terrasse weather.

“I recommend ordering an entree along with your main meal, I was still hungry after only ordering a main, it was delicious, I could have eaten two of them. It was a taco bowl, so good, my kid had two soft shell tacos, really delicious. I wish the music wasn't so loud, otherwise great food and a nice clean bathroom.“

“Pros: Beautiful ambience and decor, good service, great selection of Mexican dishes some of which would be hard to find anywhere else.

Cons: It is of course the food why we came to this place. We really wanted to try Chile en nugada especially after reading the novel “Like Water for Chocolate”. And what a disappointment when it was served lukewarm. Asked the server and he said it was normal as they did not want us to burn ourselves. Yet the molcajete came extremely hot as expected! Also Chile en nugada came without pomegranate seeds which is a must in this recipe. Budget cuts?
And the molcajete mixte which costs $75 also speaks of budget cuts. It was missing the promised grilled cheese and nopales and had only a small quantity of beef, only 3 small tiger shrimps. It did have some cheap filler that looked like potato flautas.

Overall impression: mixed feelings, probably would not come back.“
