We arrived as weary travelers from a distant land, strangers to these streets, knowing neither the faces nor the stories that lived behind those doors. Yet the moment we stepped inside, the sweet, familiar haze of cigarette smoke welcomed us like an old friend. A bar where a person can still smoke a cigarette and sip a drink in peace? My God Woodrow, we thought we’d stumbled upon paradise.
But the smoke and spirits were merely the opening chapter of something far greater.
Within those walls, we encountered men who had gone to war and returned with stories etched into their souls. We met beautiful women whose roots stretched all the way to the sun-kissed shores of France. And everywhere we turned, we found the kind of genuine Southern hospitality that cannot be purchased, manufactured, or taught.
Then came the oysters.
Somewhere between the laughter and the clinking of glasses, we were beckoned out back, where fresh oysters were boiling and strangers gathered like kin around a Sunday supper. There we stood, shoulder to shoulder with people whose names we’d only just learned, breaking bread—or rather, cracking shells—and feasting as though we’d been invited to the family table generations ago.
And Lord Almighty, the turkey.
Among the beautiful women who graced that establishment was Alexis who bestowed upon me not one, but several plates of what I can only describe as a culinary revelation.
That turkey had no business being so tender. I tell you, had the gentlest autumn breeze whispered across that turkey leg, the meat would’ve surrendered itself to the earth below. No knife was necessary. No struggle was required. It simply yielded, as though it had made peace with its destiny long before reaching my plate.
I have traveled many miles and eaten many meals, but I fear all future turkeys shall now live in the shadow of that glorious bird.
And somewhere in the midst of it all, something remarkable happened.
We forgot we were tourists.
For a few beautiful hours, beneath the hum of conversation, the curling cigarette smoke, and the laughter of people who owed us nothing yet gave us everything, we belonged.
You see, a good bar will pour you a drink. A great bar will give you a story.
But a place like Hero’s? A place like Hero’s gives you something far more precious.
It gives you a home in a town you’ve never lived in, a family you’ve never met, and memories you’ll carry long after the last glass has been emptied.
We came to Goose Creek looking for a drink.

“I placed a delivery order for my daughter and I. Normally I would pick it up, but my husband was gone for the evening, and I cannot currently drive due to a medical issue. Anyway, I placed the order and tracked it once it was picked up (I guess Asia Express uses a third-party for deliveries - in this case it was Uber Eats), only to receive a call when the driver was supposedly very close to my house (I say that because the tracking did NOT indicate that). Anyway, the driver stated she had been in an accident and said I could either come get the food from where she was or call to cancel the order. As soon as we hung up I called the restaurant to let them know, and they knew nothing about it. I gave them the number the driver called from (at their request), but I was told when they called me back they could not reach her. The restaurant was so kind to make the order again and send one of their employees to deliver it to my house. I thought that was a great gesture on their part. I have ordered from them many times in the past, and today's experience ensures I will continue to do so. Thank you, Asia Express!”

Drove over to their truck on the way home. Very cute, quaint, and cozy outdoor covered shed small dining deck area; at night the overhead string lights cast it in a warm, beautiful glow. Most signage is in Spanish, so do some prep for reading and ordering if you know a decent bit. If not, the mother+owner+cook (I'm assuming) would show her phone with the Google translation. Not all non-weekend items were available when I asked... so it was a little awkward being rejected a few times lol. I ordered 1 order of pastellitos. Affordable price for the GINORMOUS hand-sized savory pastries.
Waited maybe 10mins, not long, for freshly cooked food. Took it to go (para llevar). This was the first time I've had pastellitos with this type of fried dough. Almost like mashed starch (maybe potato?) of some sort. Because it wasn't firm/dry like an arepa or gordita, nor flaky like a pastry wrapper sheet. SOOO filling. Definitely matches the price expectation. The fillings placed on top did slightly make the crispiness soggy. So, I will try to ask for on the side or omit next time.
For those wishing to dine-in, if my subpar high-school-class-memory was right, there was a sign stating to please dispose of your food trash with you. No available trash can for customers onsite.”

“Pho Bowl is a great restaurant to go for lunch, linner and or dinner. Their food is amazing especially my favorite Pho Tai with extra meat. Customer service is great. The women that work there try their best to appease everyone's needs and wants even when the get heckled by rude patrons. The atmosphere is very nice. Good music playing and the fishies are fun to watch. Come on down and give Ms. T your support and have great food served by her amazing staff. I like them all but my favorite is Joy. I hope yall enjoy the great food and great company Pho Bowl has to offer”

“There's no diaper changing station in the restroom. The people were great, the service was quick, and the food was good except the bags of sliced apples have much fewer slices than they use to have. I did try their dragon Berry red bull refresher which was alright, pretty much tasted like regular redbull with dragonfruit on top.”

“Stopped in here yesterday for lunch, and this location was clean, with an inviting atmosphere. We used the kiosk to place our order, picked a number tent, and sat down. Within 15 minutes, our order arrived piping hot, and the meal was very enjoyable. The burger was perfectly cooked, and the fries were crispy and possessed that delicious McDonald's taste and texture.”

“DRIVE THROUGH....So amazing! I got shrimp and steak. Entree comes with veggies rice two balls of rice. It was so delicious. I almost ate half before I could take a photo. Very healthy too. Not like Chinese, fast food like authentic, Japanese, fast food. Still very healthy. Amazing. Oily just perfect shrimp and steak. Go here!!!”
