“It was a dark and stormy night. My church lady friends and I, weary from a 4 hour drive just wanted to take a quick break with some cheap booze and a bite to eat. Unsure of where we even were (pretend we didn’t have gps or anything), we pulled off I-40, hoping to ask a kind gas station worker where we might find some dinner. Much to our surprise, attached to the very gas station we stopped at was a fine establishment called Ponchos and Amigos, aka El Toro Mexican Grille. Well Ole! I say!! Nothing says fiesta like a gas station taco stand combination building that also slings liquor! A fellow named Ron took us to our seats, dished out some chips and salsa and started the pours. 4 stars on my plate of enchiladas 10 stars on my peach margarita - cause they had that good ice! I begged the gals for one of them to pretend a birthday so that we could wear the sombrero and get the song - but it was a no bueno from them. We paid our reasonable bill and crammed ourselves back into the mid-sized SUV the 6 of us are sharing and are now heading up to our cabin. Hoping the Mexican comida doesn’t distance us later, as this trip is for bonding! If we’re ever together again on this side of our neighboring state we sure will be back! Muy bien, indeed!“
“The crew is awesome! They are a lot different from the other Taco Bells. They're not chintzy with their cheese. The other thing is that with most Taco Bells you get four strings of shredded cheese on a burrito or taco. So I think the other Taco Bells need to change the name to B.Y.O.C. Bring Your Own Cheese!!! LMAO.“
“My dad and I gave this place a try as soon as they opened after the sinkhole incident. We tried several different desserts from the case and not impressed. I'm not saying it was all bad it just wasn't... good. The chocolate powder they use isn't what we would call chocolate ? but closer to sawdust ?. Canolies are very good. We've had a Gabes burger couple times and its best when the fried egg can be popped to spread all over the burger. So far ours has been over cooked. I'll buy the burgers but I'll make the eggs myself. We've tried quiet a lot from here. A little bit pricier but it evens out with their tamales (pork). OMG momma can make those tamales !! $2 or $2.50 per tamale...Soooo worth it. They only make them on certain days and they like to keep you guessing on which days they will make them so you HAVE to order EARLY....like opening time ? to make sure you get the amount you want and the meat you want. Gabe is the only person I've dealt with and he's just a cute little button with a smile for his customers and if there's an issue he will fix it fast. Ice cream is delicious and he will make whatever you want. All in all it's a good food type of place. 2 or 3 tables in the front to sit and wait on food but while it's winter it's too much draft to sit and eat since the door is RIGHT THERE and people are coming and going so that cold is too much. Like I said...the food is good and the baked desserts with the powder I think is more an issue of what we are used to for chocolate vs what they are used to for chocolate so nothing against the owners or staff. It's just what you are used to. So stop by and order from the menu and try them yourselves and you'll find something you will like and something you will love...just leave the pork tamales for me and my dad ?.“
“I don’t live in the area but I had a doctors appointment in Jefferson City on 2/8/24 and I stopped here for lunch afterwards. I have eaten at almost every Mexican restaurant in the Tri Cities area and I can safely say that this is one of the best places I’ve eaten at. I ordered the pollo con arroz and whatever red sauce plus the cheese dip they put on it was so unbelievably delicious. It also went right from the skillet to my table, it was SO hot and fresh. Chips and salsa were fresh and delicious too. Friendly, fast service. The manager who took my payment at the register also smelled really good, not sure what kind of cologne he was wearing but overall this was a great experience and I will be back anytime I am in the area.“
“We were passing by on the highway and didn't want fast food, so we ended up here. The food was very good, from salsa and queso to our dinner, and our server was super! We loved the way the place was decorated! If we get the opportunity, we will definitely be back!Kid-friendliness: There is a kid's menu.Parking: The restaurant is in a strip mall so there is plenty of parking.“
“Pretty good, this is about what you expect when you go to a Mexican restaurant in the southeast of the us. Familiar menu, they don't have a draft beer selection, but they do have bottled beer.Good place for a familiar Mexican food experience with good, quick food.“
“I go to this place every now and again to grab a beer, but today I decided to try some tacos from their menu, and I was not disappointed. The food is amazing as far as I can tell, and the service is great. Really nice people, great atmosphere, 10/10 definitely recommend!“
“The food is excellent here. It’s always hot and fast. Service the last couple times has been slow. I ordered and water and never got a refill after asking twice. Only saw our server during drink order, to bring food, and to bring our check.“
