You don’t go to Fresh Donuts on Thaxton Road because you’re looking for a theme or lofty notions of challenging what exactly a donut shop can be. You’re not there to pay premium prices for half-baked (or half-fried) vessels to deliver some novel topping or flavor with dubious execution. No, you’re likely there because you’re in the area and your options are limited.

This is not an indictment against the quality to be found at this humble shop nor a cynical jeer at the dedication that’s at work here. Fresh Donuts deals in the Platonic idea of the donut and they do it remarkably well. The evidence is in the balance of velvety airiness and crispy sweetness in every bite of a classic plain glazed; the captivating ratio of cinnamon to sugar on a cinnamon twist that is never cloying or bland. “A staple of Austin Tex-Mex since I could remember. Over the years eating at this location the food still taste the same. It is bit on the heavy side but my choices now tend to be a healthier menu selection. I always enjoy the chips and salsa especially the green sauce. We arrived to walk to the bar area where I found a table. The bartender came by and ordered a frozen margarita. Looking back now I really cherish of leaving the home and experience being pampered with service where I can just sit and relax and enjoy snacking on chips. I decided on crispy chicken tacos which had a rich full flavor. The bartender was friendly. We always get quicker service here versus in the dining room. This place gets pretty busy at lunchtime where we arrive early and when we left there was already a wait. We had another great experience and counting the days where we can go back inside to enjoy another meal.“

“This coffee truck is amazing. The people are super friendly and know coffee. My personal favorite is a neat quad moon shaker. Perfect pick me up for those long afternoons and evenings. They do have places to sit and enjoy your coffee. Most people make it a stop on their walking route or while out walking their pups. They do have some t-shirts and food items available but we are hooked on the coffee. They do seasonal specials as well.“

“Amazing experience, we’re visiting from out of town…loved the name. We drove out of the way to stop. It did not disappoint. Gorgeous selection of 4th of July treats, along with sausage rolls, apple fritters, cinnamon rolls and more than my eyes could take in. Everything was perfectly cooked and appealing. While we enjoying our treats there was a continuous parade of kids with their parents who say this is a regular stop. Owners were wonderful..when they knew we were just visiting they gave me a couple stickers for my car and water bottle. ❤️❤️❤️we will definitely stop in again.
