I first went in without realizing that the ownership had changed. It used to be run by a Korean family, and I was a little worried the food wouldn’t be as good as before—but I was wrong. The new owner has done a not bad job with the food.
We ordered the spicy squid, beef soup, Vietnamese sandwich, and seafood pancake.

Seafood pancake: I’d been craving this for a while, so I ordered it right away. Unfortunately, it was a little burnt this time and didn’t taste as good as usual. (Tip: order it first since it takes some time to prepare.) ⭐ 2.5/5

Beef soup: The broth was excellent—rich and flavorful. However, I wasn’t a fan of the ingredients inside. I expected vegetables like cabbage or mushrooms, but instead there were long, thin pieces that looked a bit odd. Still, ⭐ 3/5 (all points for the broth).

Spicy squid: Absolutely fantastic! ⭐ 5/5

Vietnamese sandwich: My friend really enjoyed it. ⭐ 5/5

“We ordered the spicy galbi wings, galbi wings, Cole slaw, sweet potato fries, fried dumplings. This was our first time eating at this location. We’ve eaten at bbq Korean chicken in Austin, Katy, and in the Houston area. Their wings never fail. You can taste their freshness (not the reheated taste)and they are served hot. They’re crispy and the galbi sauce is delicious. The sweet potato fries could’ve been crispy and less burnt. The fried dumplings had great taste and they were fried just right! And oh!! “This place has become one of my most favorite Korean restaurants in town. They have the best jjampong (spicy seafood noodles) out of all the places I've tried. Their sweet and sour beef is so so good; it is also a must-try. Their tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) is also really good but mine was soft. I'm fine with that but some people prefer it to be chewy. The portion was huge but it was so good we basically cleaned the plates. The owner saw how well we ate and she smiled so happily. Their barley tea was also a nice touch.

The restaurant is pretty small but clean; it feels very homey. I hope they get more business because they deserve it.“

“Good afternoon everyone! We attended Gen Korean BBQ House in Houston, Tx on Friday 7/5/2023. My family And I were in for a visit from Louisiana and decided to eat here for a couple of reasons; Reason 1: My daughter and I have a very severe allergy to Iodine/Seafood so we're very very limited to what we can eat but with Korean BBQ we can pick out meats and safely cook it on a grill that hasn't been exposed to any seafood products! Reason 2: We don't have very many, if any Korean BBQ spots in Lake Charles, La and we absolutely love this food. So we chose to go to Gen Korean BBQ but to our surprise our hostess/waitress was Extremely rude! not just once or twice but, throughout the whole dining experience! My fiance requested another waiter or waitress after speaking to the manager but nothing was done besides him saying he would speak to the rude waitress, that's unacceptable so we quietly left! I'm not sure if she was having a bad night or this is generally how she acts but where I'm from this is not acceptable and speaks volumes about her character!“

“My review will be somewhat biased because I’ve been coming here for years with my Dad since it’s so close to work and it’s relatively unknown. It’s a no frills restaurant/convenience store. The original owner used to cook all the dishes herself but with age, she’s trusted the restaurants to her stewards who have been with her for decades. They’ve done a great job continuing the cooking technics and quality of taste. The kimchi is still made fresh in-house as are all their banchan. I’ve had everything on the menu but never took pictures. Their braised short ribs are so succulent. Their jjampong, although not filled with as much seafood as in the past, is still solid and the taste is nostalgic for me. Spicy yet flavorful. All their dishes are solid. Still a favorite of mine, when I need a quick and home cooked meal.“

We have always wanted to try Korean Chicken but I have a kid with a sesame allergy but we were kid free. We have 0 regrets about this. It was amazing, literally the best chicken we have ever had. We went for the kimchi fries but the chicken was so good we hardly touched the fries. The whole ride home we were talking about how good the chicken was and how we want to go back. Now hours later my sister is asking if we have another reason to go into town and grab some chicken.

“This might be my favorite Korean spot in HTX!
My friends and I wanted a nice hearty meal late at night and thankfully Tree Garden is open until midnight so we decided to give this spot a try. There was plenty of parking and we were surprised to be the only ones to be in the restaurant on a Friday night.

We ordered the following:
Seafood Pancake
Perfectly crispy with a good amount of seafood. I’ve been to numerous Korean places in HTX and wasn’t too impressed with this specific dish but Tree Garden does it well!

Marinated Beef Short Ribs w/buckwheat noodles
I love that this restaurant offers this combo and I’d highly recommend this if you’re craving both noodles and some protein! The noodles were so satisfying and they have slices of asian pear in it that adds a nice juicy, refreshing touch to the dish. The beef ribs were tender, savory, and full of flavor.

Seafood Pure Tofu Hot Pot
This was the star of the show in my opinion. My group had 4 people including me and we each got a large bowl. The broth was so delicious and with the silken tofu and seafood, this was our favorite dish of the night.

Aside from the dishes we ordered, the banchan was fresh and delicious! Our favorite was the green beans which were savory and had a little bit of a kick to it.
The ajuhmas working here were very friendly and did an amazing job at serving- we really appreciate how they served our bowls of soup and took care of the leftovers in to-go boxes. And at the very end of the meal, they serve Sikhye.
Looking forward to coming back and trying everything else!“

“The food is made fresh and sooo good. Been here a few times and always good. The portion of boneless is a bit bigger than the bone in and had some ttottbokki with it. I highly recommend the sweet and spicy, it tastes like gangjeong chicken!“

While the side dishes and soup were not particularly exciting, they were acceptable given the price point. The staff was very friendly. I would come back to explore other menus.“

It’s the best Korean restaurant I have visited in Houston. Great variety of food choices. The lunch specials are reasonably priced. I love the seafood dolsol bibimban, soon tofu jigae, bibim hangmian. Soy crab! Everything we ordered was 10/10 quality and portion. It deserves higher rating!!!!“
