The brunch was great, the pork flautas with egg on top was a game changer. Patio is a nice and chill spot to eat and have a few drinks. The surprise star of the brunch was the beermosa, a live oak hefe mixed Orange and mango juice was a nice break from the normal mimosa. Heavier body than a mimosa, but less bubbly which was pretty refreshing. This has been a staple for years and I would highly recommend anyone go and have their food and a few beers, it's definitely worth a stop
I had the Chicken Fried Steak. I'm not sure if it was because of the time/day I went, but they didn't have the two different sizes seen in the menu. The menu was actually a lot smaller and didn't have as many options as I imagined. The food was great. The chicken fried steak was delicious. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was good and worth the trip. I wish they put just a little more gravy on it. They didn't give any Ice in the water. I hate that, but whatever. I may have discovered this restaurant bar too late. The Hay Merchant will be closing down less than a month after my first visit. The bar does serve a long list of exciting and local craft beers, including the "coffee cake is for closers stout;" a personal favorite. On my few and recent visits, I did not stray beyond their (excellent) cheeseburger and stout beers. There's no need. I'll miss this place
