“Great experience, nice lady gave us some stuff to sample while we waited for our food. Carrot nut bread was super moist and just sweet enough. Chicken salad and tuna salad both filling and refreshing. The fried catfish was delicious and crispy. And the red beans and rice just hit the spot!Parking: Parking is limited and right off the road.”
“Learned of this place on TikTok and could not wait to try the food and coffee. Did not disappoint at all!! Food was fresh cooked and tasted amazing. The coffee was incredible. Service was exceptional!!”
“It has taken me awhile to make it to this cafe. We live in the area and do not eat out much. However, this little cafe is going to be a regular for our family!I have been twice in 2 days- lunch and then breakfast. I dined with my husband, son, daughter-in-law and three grandsons- 16,15 and 5. Everyone loved their food- no exceptions! We played pool, basketball, tic-tac-toe, had coffee (delicious!) and enjoyed the people around us.The owners are hard working and genuinely care about your experience at their cafe. Additionally, their community outreach is evident throughout the cafe.Earlier today, I witnessed an unwarranted customer complaint while dining. The customer was scamming for a free meal at best, and race-baiting at worst. The owner handled the customer’s complaint with class and respect. Kudos to their team. For all of these reasons, not to mention the fabulous food, you definitely need to visit Out of the Way Cafe!”
“Finally caught them open and got to try it.. I got the brisket, sausage, and chicken 3 meat plate with their famous corn and tater salad. The service was great and the food is hella good. I will definitely be back..”
“We are visiting Legion members. The members of this post were very welcoming. We didn't know they had organized a potluck and didn't bring anything to share. They insisted we join in. Several members greeted and spoke with us. It was fun.”
“Best breakfast tacos ever. Martine is a good man and a danm good taco artist. Also try his lunch plates. I promise you wont be disappointed. Also if you have a short lunch break dont worry hes fast and if you really need to grab and run then call ahead and its ready when you get there.”
“The Quintessential dive bar where EVERYONE in Lakehills knows your name, where you live, and who was your momma. Strangers be warned. A colorful cast of characters from the gas station clerk, hippie cedar choppers, hookers, and pot heads mingle and get drunk. Karaoke night three nights a week. Doubt you’ll get laid, but you’ll have a LOT of fun! ? ?”
“It was really good. Some of the food could definitely use some more salt and the salsa wasn’t the best I’ve ever had but it wasn’t the worst either. The chips were thin and hot. So good. They are definitely short handed but still did a good job. Food was just a little slow coming out. The Margarita was really good. Not too sweet. Prices were very reasonable. Will definitely return if we’re ever in the area again.”
“We went on a Saturday and we loved it. The young lady that helped us was wonderful and had a great vibe! The food was fresh and delicious! Thank ya'll for being awesome! ???”
“We stopped by this restaurant as we were driving through and everything was super delicious!! The service was fantastic!! We will definitely be coming back from Houston for more!”
“This place was such an amazing find! I can not eat gluten, so most pizza places end up off my list because of the options available. I looked up the menu for Dough Joe and noticed gluten-free pizza. I am so glad I went here. Not only did they have a lot of delicious Pizzas, but they also took the gluten allergy seriously. They prepared my pizza carefully to avoid any cross-contamination. They even used a different pizza slicer to ensure my pizza didn't become contaminated from other pizzas that contain gluten. I ordered the "chicken bacon ranch" pizza with BBQ sauce instead of the white sauce (contains gluten), and it was hands down one of the best gluten free Pizzas I've eaten. I will definitely be returning to dine here quite a bit. If you are gluten sensitive, make sure your server knows about it, and they'll make sure the kitchen makes accommodations when they prepare your food. I didn't have any reactions after eating here. Thank you, Dough Joe, for taking precautions the way you do. It is rare to find a restaurant that does all of that.Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian options are clearly labeled on the menh.Dietary restrictions: Gluten-freeParking: Parking spaces directly in front of the restaurant along with street parking on the side road.Kid-friendliness: Very kid-friendly, family-friendly atmosphere”
“Pizza was amazing. We got the Supreme, a cheese, and the chicken bacon ranch. It came out hot and crunchy, with a chewy crust. Was still thinking about that pizza later in the evening and ate it cold the next morning. Will absolutely be back.”
“Fun spot that screams Texas! Bring your own steaks and grill them yourself alongside other patrons. For your $10 (cash only) entry ticket you get a baked potato, roll and salad. Live music and multiple dance floors round out the experience.Parking: Can be challenging to find parking.”
“The moment we walked in, the atmosphere was amazing. Staff were extremely warm and welcoming. Live music was an added plus. Definitely recommend the Hef if you like Blue Moon. Bandera lager is comparable to Dos XX.”
“the food was amazing. the customer service was astounding. server was an incredible very nice and understanding, the vibe of the establishment was great 10/10 recommend”
“Lea was the bartender for New Year's. She made sure everyone had drinks, socialized with all the paying customers. She is definitely fun to be around. Thank you Lea for bringing in the New Year with us.”
“Perfect lunch and good conversation with the locals! Blackened chicken sandwich was great. His California sandwich was tasty as well. Not a big fan of the potato salad. She was clear that it was different. We tried it, just olives are not my thing. Close to Bandera RV park where we stayed for the week.”
“Been going to OST all my life and it seems like it's just about the only thing that doesn't change around you. Keep up the good work. whenever I'm back in Bandera you can guarantee you'll see me at the OST!Kid-friendliness: It's a family joint, bring the kids”
“Worth the trip!! Took scenic drive to Bandera, and so glad we found this restaurant (1 block off Main St). Waitress was super friendly & attentive. Two of us ordered the chicken fried steak.. SOOO GOOD, crunchy & flavorful. And the mashed potatoes were DELICIOUS! Husband enjoyed the Wagyu burger & said the sweet potato fries were best he's had. Only wish we had brought some of their desserts home. We'll be back when in Bandera!”
“Food is always amazing! They get you in and out as quickly as possible. They are a popular spot in our little neck of the woods. I love the ham and cheese kolachies. Thier donuts are my favorite as well! I also love that with every order you get a little bit of the tiny donut rounds.”
“The staff were all so warm and welcoming. Charming atmosphere. The food was ALL so amazing and tasty! My steak was outstanding. The mashed potatoes were delicious and the grilled veggies were cooked to perfection. The Cream of Asparagus soup was savory and delicious, not too creamy...so delicious that I ordered more to go for the next day. My friend and her son both had the chicken fried steak and it looked fantastic. We all ordered different desserts to share. The chocolate cake was simply decadent. The pecan pie was amazing - the crust was tender and flaky and the custard filling was rich, smooth and sumptuous. The cinnamon, basil and black pepper ice cream was absolutely devine! We will definitely be back! So glad we found this gem!”
“My husband and I took my father in law who is from Rome to eat at Pap's last Sunday. It was all our first visit but we will definitely be going more often.”
“This was our first time frequenting this establishment. The moment we walked in, the hostess was very welcoming. Although it was a 20-minute wait for a table, we would soon find out that the wait was worth it. Our server was very friendly and very willing to provide information about their menu. Food was excellent and the presentation on all the plates-not just on our food- but looking at other tables, was very impressive. I definitely recommend this place next time you are in Bandera. If you live here, and you haven't been to this restaurant.. you don't know what you're missing. We will definitely come back again and again!”
“The best barbacoa I’ve had in a really long time tortilla are great. You get a litter of big red I’m not complaining. Best spot outside of sa y’all should definitely try it. And there pico is”
“Great little bar with cold beer & wine, cheap prices and hot bartenders. Clean, comfortable and friendly folks. Outdoor seating on a cozy patio. Awesome live outdoor music 2nd Saturday of each month with Bike night and other random Saturdays depending on weather.”
“Definitely recommended! Fast friendly service. We loved the tortillas, salsa and eggs/beans on our breakfast tacos. My wife wasn't a huge fan of the barbacoa tacos, but we will definitely be back for her to try something else. They did a great job to meet a couple of special requests and the prices were great as well. Will be back next time we're in Bandera!”
“I love this bar. Wednesday night jam sessions are amazing. I'd say it's the best dive bar in Bandera. Live music. Food trucks. Super cold beer and laid back vibes.”
“Bar food is very good. The service is dependent on the staff working, I've got excellent to poor service there. The atmosphere is average, mostly local crowd. Stools are not comfortable, and bar chairs are limited. It was a lot nicer when new.”
“Great down to earth hospitality. Waitresses are very attentive and so sweet. The place is old but with charm. This will be my to go place. We ride our motorcycles from San Antonio every morning. I'm glad to have found a great breakfast place.”
“Annie is a wonderful barista, she makes fantastic coffee and chai, and has a delicious selection of kolache, muffins, and sweet bread. She was a delightful person to chat with and exceedingly welcoming to me when I mentioned that I was out of town. We will absolutely be back the next time we're in town!(no food photos due to it being too delicious and I ate them before thinking about it ?)Parking: It's all dirt and grass”
