“We were a larger party of 10 and had made reservations. Our table was ready for us when we arrived and the owner (I think) welcomed us.
Several people had been here before. There are options for everyone. I had the vegetarian sampler, which was delicious and flavorful. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The restaurant has great ambience with Afghan artwork and crafts adorning the walls.

My most recent lunch, Mantu, "ground beef and onion-filled dumpling, topped with fresh homemade yogurt, meat sauce and dried mint" was the best thing I ate that week. I imagine that one weekend the large dining room is crowded with families.“

“We had never tried Afghani food before, and I am so glad we did. The staff was so friendly and helpful with any questions we had. They recommended the Mini Taste of Arocostia for our first time. Everything was FANTASTIC!!! The food was cooked perfectly. The service was great! We never had to ask to have our beverages filled up, because they were already on top of it before we had to ask. They packed all our leftovers into boxes for us for our way home. We will definitely be going back!“

“Loved eating here. The restaurant smelled faintly of incense, which was a welcome ambiance. Tables are layed out well so it doesn't feel cramped. The space is nice and bright with beautiful decor. The staff were friendly and very attentive. Service was fast and the food was absolutely delicious! Loved every single thing I ordered:

Sheer chai — this tea had a nice balance of milk and sugar

Mantoo classic — these beef dumplings were full of flavor and served at the right temperature, hot but not too much to burn your mouth

Lamb shank — the sauce was packed with flavor and the meat fell off the bones. It came with rice that was a lovely buttery complement to the lamb

Sheer berenj — had this for dessert and it was very refreshing. It's not milky and the pistachios on top added a nice nutty flavor to the rice pudding

Green tea with cardamom — nice way to end dinner“

“This place is beyond writing s good review. I used to be in college 22 years ago and it was the spot for everyone bc they have really good food and always generous. Recently, I took my son there after many years bc I moved away and now back in the area. My son loved it so much, this is our second visit in less than a week. The place is just as good as it used to be and they reason behind all the success in my own opinion is bc it managed by an excellent owner and his family. Really the food and the service is beyond your imagination.
As I was leaving, I spotted Moby dick across the street and I am confident to say, if you eat here, you would not eat Moby dick even if it was for free. “Had the buffet around 1800 hrs. Comes with a large piece of Afghan bread. Buffet veggie dishes and 2 meat dishes. Ferni and fruit for dessert. Everything was fine to me, except to get white or brown rice you need to ask a counter person. I think they expect customers to re-use their dirty styrofoam plates since I was the only one who appeared not to--which now makes me wonder whether I should return here.“
