“Food is great and wait staff is awesome. Not large party friendly. Had a party of 10 and was told we could only be seen if we were all on one check. We were coming from church and the party consisted of 5 couples. We had been there before with no issues getting separate checks. Was told it was a weekend policy implemented 3 months ago. We have been there within the last month and was not told this. No bad experiences prior. Assuming the manager just did not want to accommodate us.“

The roast beef open face sandwich was so tender it was incredible. So if you’re looking for a good home-cooked meal, breakfast lunch and some dinner items, this is the place to go. “This place is new to Fredericksburg and this was our first time here.\n\nMy wife had the salmon dish and I the 14oz sirloin. Both dishes were prepared exactly as we asked This is not so common as one would expect among restaurants. The food, particularly the steak, was as good as we have had anywhere and better than most. The baked potato was worth mentioning. It was prepared differently than I have seen elsewhere and it was delicious. My wife's salmon was on a bed of "Hoppin' John", a dish seldom found made of beans and what appeared to be wild rice. I haven't seen it since a native American restaurant in Connecticut. I liked it but my bride was less enthusiastic.\n\nService was excellent. Our server had several tables but she was always there when we wanted her and not there when we didn't.\n\nThe bill was high but not eye-watering so. My steak alone was $60 but in today's world it was not out of line for an upscale restaurant and this is very much so. \n\nOne note on ambiance; there was a large noisy party in progress and they were exiled to a separate room. I for one appreciated that and was not irritated by it. For me, that is unusual.\n\nWe'll be back!“

“This was a WOW for us. We had been on the road since 8 a.m. we still have another 4 hours to go but needed to stop to eat.

Melanie welcomed us and was our waitress. For a minute there... I thought she was literally doing everything in the entire restaurant. When we came in it was right before everything was about to get crazy and I watched her handle everything that was happening like she was juggling fire blindfolded. She didn't miss a thing....

Then .... It got better. As our server she was on point with everything. I ordered a glass of wine so fast my husband never even saw it.

The food... I had the steak salad and my husband had the sirloin tip appetizer with the Cesar Salad. Both steaks came out perfectly cooked to perfection. To be honest... We weren't expecting that. This was a road stop for us. The service and food were SO amazing... This has now become a destination stop for us.

PS... The special motorcycle parking was a big draw for us. We can't ride any more but it feels good to be around family.“

“My wife and I demolished the fish platter. We shared one platter because we thought we weren't that hungry, but once we started eating, I feel like we should have gotten two separate platters. The Mac and cheese is so good, seasoned and cheesy, noodles at perfect texture. The greens were also very well seasoned and balanced flavor. And the fish tasted fresh and so friggin good. So happy I stopped here and will definitely be going back, often. The staff was very welcoming and included the utensils and sauces without asking. Such a good meal, Thank you!“

“Fish and grill really changed, since I last visited, some 5 years ago. The parking lot is kind of crowded- I didn't expect that to change in a strip zoned for businesses. But it's clean. They would do well to have one garbage can outside of the establishment but the sidewalk is narrow. The signage is visible. The restaurant is very open, airy and immaculate. We arrived, intending to eat in the car because we have a toddler with special needs: he's in keg casts. The restaurant had a separate area in the front, near the door that accommodated our needs. We are COVID conscious and wanted to be away from others. The food was fantastic. We had catfish meals and sides that were delicious, hot and arrived in a timely manner. My grandson was having a horrible time sitting and eating: he is in thigh high casts and he was not happy that he couldn't sit by himself or eat properly. He's very active and independent. While sitting in his mom's lap, he urinated through his diaper and down her leg. While we were ready to go back to the car to take everything "to go." Our server, Tiffany, came to the rescue. She went to the car and gave us a diaper he could fit and pants he could wear. I've never seen such a kind gesture at a restaurant. She is a gem. He's newly casted, so we had to buy new diapers (he's potty training but has to go back a few steps to a regular diaper. Tiffany saved the afternoon. I recommend Dish and Grill for the food (it's exemplary), for the ambiance and for kind people like Tiffany; people that really take pride in themselves and pass kindness to others. Thank you, Tiffany I hope and Fish and Grill recognizes your excellence!“

“We were roadtripping on 95 and needed a place to stop for snacks so we selected Foode and Mercantile. What a very pleasant surprise. After winding through a tree lined road boarding the river, we found the restaurant in quaint downtown Fredericksburg, VA. We each ordered bourbon based drinks, coffee, tea and Smoked Salmon, Quiche and a gingerbread scone! It was delicious! They quickly fixed what was a smaller than normal portion of salmon and kept coffee and water glasses full without asking. Very nice spot! Fresh cooked to order food with great service! Do you want to be seen at the latest hip joint, sipping a trendy cocktail and posting duck lip pics there on you IG ? ...or do you want cheap drinks in a place regulars come and could care less if you showed up in crocs and a Journey t- shirt from 1985?
My girl and I did an impromptu bar hop recently. We each had a drink at each venue, then moved on. We started at Happy Endings and ended up at...uh... well, never mind that. The next day, I checked my card and every place we went... over 20 bucks. ...Happy Endings... $6.95. Now granted... the other places didn't serve PBR in a can, but hey... sometimes you put an emphasis on value. Also, H.E. was the only place we had lively conversations with total strangers. I dunno... I've been going there for years and they always seem to deliver. Plus...in the current state of our economy, you want your drinking dollar to go a bit farther. To me it seems like all the bars in Fredericksburg are trying to stand out in their own sort of way. H.E. doesn't have to try.. they do it old school and don't care what you think. Just sit down, drink your PBR straight out the can and no need to pretend to be someone you're not. You're probably not that interesting anyway... like me. It's ok, I'll buy the next round and we can solve the world's problems.
Bottom line, Home town bar filled with friendly locals and dirt cheap drinks to lift your spirits....and a bar name that reminds you of your last trip to Bangkok... hell ya.

“This is the most amazing restaurant we’ve ever been in! We were cheerfully greeted by several Hooter’s girls, one of which escorted us to a table. Our server sat down and went over the menu with us. She got the order in quickly, and soon had our meal out to us. She sat down and talked to us with the most fantastic attitude. All of the food was delicious. We noticed how professional and well-organized the General Manager was, and in the middle of our meal he came to our table greeted us and sat down and talked to us. The entire experience was so great that we will be returning regularly!“
