My family and I love Wilks BBQ. They have the best BBQ I’ve ever had as well as the coleslaw. In fact their baked beans and collard greens are delicious also. I have served it many times when we have a large crowd to feed. Don’t let the outside appearance stop you. It’s truly a hole in the wall.
When I worked at Fort Monroe years ago, I used to treat myself to Wilkes a few times a month. I moved to Petersburg in 2015 and missed the Carolina style BBQ. Moved back to Hampton in 2019 and I forgot about Wilkes until recently. Been looking for good BBQ since. All the places around here have heavily smoked BBQ with tons of seasonings and sauce. Very homey. Simple Southern BBQ, served in a paper bag. They don't sell fries, but all the other staples that go along with BBQ. Coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, green beans and seasonally collard greens. A few other items such as ribs. Baked Beans top-tier, served in a Styrofoam cup.
