We went to Brood for the first time last night to treat company from North Carolina. There was a party there who was behaving horribly; they belonged in a sports bar at best: scream-talking, yelling things like "WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" repeatedly. They were so loud that we couldn't even speak to each other while they were there because we couldn't hear each other. We also struggled with hearing our waitress and she struggled with hearing us. It wasn't an outburst or two; they were miserably, inappropriately loud every moment we overlapped. While the people shouldn't have been behaving that way in the first place, management really should have had a word with them about the ongoing disturbance. An evening at Brood isn't cheap, and other patrons shouldn't be held hostage by people who don't know how to act in a restaurant. Everyone around us looked irritated and was throwing dirty looks to this classless group. We made it known to our waitress that we were having a miserable experience because of it and she said agreed that they were too loud, said she was sorry, and mentioned that they had paid so they should be leaving soon. They left about twenty minutes later.Portion sizes are small for the price and the menu is so limited. It would be nice if Brood would consider offering at least 1 vegetarian entree on each menu. Vegetarians are limited to small salads and/or a couple of appetizer options, which is disappointing. The cocktails were fantastic and the waitress was attentive and friendly. The restaurant itself is lovely and everyone at our table enjoyed our food even though the vegetarian was so limited. Without the party of loud drunks and management not addressing it, the evening would've been more enjoyable.

Last evening (2/25/24), I took my daughter and a close family friend to Brood for what I thought was going to be a pleasant dining experience. We arrived for our 5:30 reservation and were promptly seated along with an apology for a badly behaved group of about 8 -10 people. We were assured that they were just finishing up. This group was so loud and obnoxious that we could barely hear the hostess. We sat down but couldn't hear each other. I voiced my objections to our server who was very apologetic, however nothing changed. The badly behaved group lingered with their inapproriate behaviors even after they paid. I complained a second time but still nothing was done. We all had to endure the obnoxious noise until they finally left. I was amazed at how complacent the staff was about the disruptive behaviors. Everybody's time was ruined while the boisterous group had a blast. We got a final apology from our server as she delivered our check. Too little, too late! We won't be back. The food was good, the service attentive and the drinks were generous. There were, however, no vegetarian options on the menu and bread/rolls are not provided at Brood. Additionally, they were out of olives for our martinis. No one cared enough to make a 10 minute grocery store run to get olives. Really? It was another example of a complacent staff. That being said, Brood only gets 2 stars for service.Vegetarian options: There were none!

We absolutely loved our evening out here last night. We started off with cocktails and Mussels. Both were excellent! For entrees, we both selected the Maple glazed Salmon with Walnut crumb on top of a bed of butternut squash “purée” accompanied by hoppin John. The Salmon was cooked to perfection and the butternut squash “purée” so good I would have liked more. Even the Hoppin John (black eyed peas seasoned fantastically on a bed of rice) was so good I ate every bite. Kudos to the chef on this entree! 10 Stars plus! Our server was top notch. She was just the right amount of attentive. We will definitely be back!

Very disappointing experience. I ordered the mussels & frites (a favorite of mine at fine dining restaurants) and an arugula salad. The salad was flavorless, the mussels appeared to have been frozen (chewy, fishy, brittle shells), the frites were awful and just frozen regular fries. The broth for the mussels tasted like chicken broth with a splash of lemon juice, no garlic pieces, shallot, onion, anything. I left most of the “frites”/fries and half of the mussels. My husband got the short ribs and they were very good, but the broccoli was definitely frozen. The cocktail menu was reminiscent of the early 2000’s with fun names. I expected more for the price point and hoped for a good restaurant in Salem. Will not be back.

Food was great but our service was not the best and the atmosphere was nice looking but it was difficult to have an intimate conversation over dinner which we were hoping for.

Visited Brood for the first time last night with family, and can honestly say we were blown away. The atmosphere was cozy and had a welcoming southern charm, along with friendly & attentive wait staff. We ordered the mussels, steak frites, and short rib, which all blew us away with a symphony of flavors and textures, for which you could genuinely taste the "love". The cocktails and dessert were the icing on the cake, no pun intended. This is the caliber of dining experience that Salem/Roanoke has been looking for. Needless to say, we will be coming back!

Very inviting atmosphere. Sincere and welcoming greeting. The mussels were delicious as were our entrees. Can't wait to try the other ones... The old subfloor needs to be shored up. When the waitstaff walks anywhere near you it shakes the floor a lot, which makes relaxing a challenge. We will be back soon

My husband and I tried Brood for the first time last night and we were blown away how good our food was. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all delicious and fresh. Can't wait to come back to the beautifully decorated restaurant.

Wonderful service and meal for party of 6.Chicken Schnitzel and Braised no short ribs were awesome and priced reasonably. Arugula salad (amazing vinaigrette) and lettuce wedge were generous. But I could go back for drinks only! They were delicious. (Try The Naughty Santa while it’s still the season).

Fantastic for date nights without children. Fantastic drinks, food, service, and atmosphere. The place is still kinda new, I expected it to be busier, and I expect it will get busier as the word spreads. Thanks for an enjoyable experience. Salmon and short ribs were fantastic. Everything we ate was fantastic.

Made a reservation for two. Received confirmation text 15 min prior. When we showed up they said they would not be able to serve us because of an event. They were serving food to customers in the restaurant, but insisted there was no food for us even though we had a reservation. No service recovery attempts were made. Very unprofessional.

We had a really delicious dinner. Brood is pretty simple and unpretentious. But I don't mean that in a bad way. There aren't any ingredients on the menu that you'll have to Google. It's just familiar, delicious, comforting food. A lot of restaurants try too hard to be original and to be fancy. Brood I think just wants to put good food on the table, and they've succeeded at that. I would certainly go back.
