“Hands down the absolute best food I’ve ever had! The lamb kebab was excellent — savory, flavorful, and delicious. And the scallion lamb soup was perfection on a plate! It wasn’t too light, not too heavy, and had the exact amount of spice to finish it. The staff was kind, let us wear Uighur traditional hats, and take photos at the stage. It was the best dine in experience! To top things off, the food is halal!! I cannot recommend this place enough.“

“This unassuming and hole in the wall restaurant is the real deal and what a treat! Had friendly service and deliciously authentic super FRESH food, made to order from scratch. I could see the cook in the kitchen and she ran a very clean and organized kitchen. Think homecooking and you'll be happy with what you get. As fans of Persian cuisine and frequent shoppers at Yekta Market in Rockville— having recently tried our hand at making Persian dishes like Fesenjan at home— coupled with all of the culinary accolades— we had high expectations for JOON. It not only met but exceeded them. Mast-o Musir, yogurt dish with Persian dried shallot and rose petal, was exceptional— more elevated and nuanced than any we’ve had. The mushroom Khoresht stew with white truffle was another highlight, offering perfectly balanced flavors something hard to do with white truffles and a satisfying richness, complemented by the perfectly crunchy Tahdig, iconic golden rice crust. The braised lamb shoulder which Yacine suggested was the undeniable highlight of the meal I which each dish was excellent. Tender and flavorful, it was paired beautifully with texture. It’s a signature dish that rivals the best we’ve ever had, bringing to mind the legendary Bo Ssam pork shoulder from David Chang’s Momofuku— bold, unforgettable, and expertly prepared. The Gormeh Sabzi, short rib stew with its delicious sour depth, was excellent but couldn’t quite match the lamb’s showstopping brilliance. Two very minor points. While the food and service are exceptional, the main dining room lighting would benefit from dimming. A water filtration water system could make a big difference as well. JOON has firmly secured its place as a must-visit dining destination for us. We can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu.“

“Absolutely fantastic experience. The pizza was hands down one of the finest I have ever tasted, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The gyro was equally impressive, fresh, juicy, and incredibly satisfying. You can really tell they use quality ingredients in every bite. “These are my Afghans so I don’t wanna ruin their reputation. But just giving my personal review. I have been to this restaurant 3-4 times now. Previous visits was good so kept coming. But my most recent visit they got one of the orders wrong so they had to send it back. Took too long. We almost cancel that one because everyone else was almost finished with their food and the food didn’t come almost 30-40 minutes. Also, this time I found a little bit of hair and I just wanted to inform them about it and they didn’t seem to apologize or offer a new plate or anything. They just said all of our people wear head coverings when I brought up that I found hair. From then on out, I lost my appetite. I usually order the ice cream as well, but my appetite was ruined.“

“Never disappointed!! The veggies taste amazing, the bread is perfect/not overdone, and the chicken is always so moist. I wish there was a larger seating area, but not a big deal. If I could change anything, it would be the music. Doesn’t fit the vibe.“

“This restaurant was great and the broth was super flavorful. I got the spicy broth and the flavor was delicious enough to eat on its own. The ordering online was a cool concept. Good value for what you pay. I liked the buffet of veggies and seafood, but my only complaint is that I wish the items were labeled and that each had a utensil.“

“Not sure why there’s so many bad reviews, this place is great. Local, friendly staff that are attentive to their customers; it was our first time there and they answered our questions We even got two free samosas’s (chicken and veggie) while we waited for our food that were so flavorful and tasty! We got the butter chicken combo platter and chicken & lamb over rice; they were amazing ! Presentation was great and they were so flavourful! We also got a mango lassi that was sooo good; wonderfully creamy, fruity, and refreshing. Highly recommend giving a try and can’t wait to go back!“

“Great potential for the falafel platter, with some missteps that keep it from being five stars.First, the good:- sauces were excellent (toum, shut)- dips were great (hummus, labneh, and a chickpea stew)- bread (shrak) was great- fries were great (served with cilantro)- onion/parsley garnish was very good but needed to be more of it- falafel was good- salata was pretty goodHere’s what can be improved:- the Persian style grilled tomato and grilled onion make no sense as a side for a falafel platter… it should either be served with tabbouleh or chopped raw tomatoes and onion, either of which add freshness and cut through the heavy sauces- speaking of tabbouleh, it was supposed to come with some but didn’t- the fries, falafel and chickpea stew were a little too salty- personal preference: I don’t like pickled beets in general very much, I didn’t like these pickled beets in particular very much, and I strongly feel that pickled cucumbers are superior on a falafelThe good parts about the platter were great. But, the actual falafel wrap was a little off, because it lacked fresh veggies. The sauce, the bread will keep me coming back, but I hope the owners take note of this feedback

“BEST FOOD I’VE HAD IN NOVA!
The service was fast, and the staff were respectful, prompt, and genuinely friendly. The restaurant was spotless and well-maintained, which made the experience even better.

The food came out quickly but was clearly made with care and skill. We ordered the chicken kabob, ground beef, chickpeas, mantu, and sheeryakh—and every dish was fantastic. The sheeryakh (Afghan ice cream) is an absolute must-try!

Highly recommend this restaurant—I’ll definitely be coming back as a regular customer!“
