“Been following everything I could about this restaurant on their social media as well as what news I could find as a Filipino restaurant in Tacoma is super exciting! I came here with my mother (but will come here with my Filipino boyfriend) to try them out! We were able to find parking luckily and we also were lucky to grab the last seat as they had a full house inside. Our waiter welcomed us very warmly and professionally before grabbing some menus and then taking us over to the table. The table had little mats with utensils and at the wall end of the table had condiments, sauces, and little sauce dishes. The walls had some art on them with yellow and green paint on the walls. I felt the decor was cute and gives vibes of street eateries, which also feels amplified with street food videos at the Philippines playing on the TVs. The bathroom is all gender too as they had a urinal and toilet as well as a baby changing area.
Our waiter did a great job checking in on tables and providing the same hospitality he showed us to everyone else. The check ins were less frequent once the restaurant was getting empty, but I am impressed with how fast they cleaned up tables once they get cleared. When I told him that I was a Yelp Elite and here for the event, he immediately told me that he would get me the Calamansi iced tea and got the lumpia getting made for me. We ended up ordering the lechon belly and a little later we got the ube iced coffee. The drinks were very refreshing and not overly sweet, which made us very happy as more often you get overly sweet drinks. Also, I noticed not one review mentioned their complimentary chips and salsa but I learned from the waiter that you can ask for it and they will provide it. Additionally, they will refill it for you too! The salsa didn't really have anything memorable but it's a complimentary so I'm not really going to say it was a negative. The lechon is by far one of the best that I have had in Washington. The stuffing they put in the lechon, especially the lemongrass, is such a burst of umami! Definitely coming back and trying more of their menu as well as return back for some favorites from this trip.“

“MEKENIE FILIPINO RESTAURANT In the large Filipino community that has come to South King County in the last 20 years you ask the question: Is there Filipino cuisine in Renton? It seems like a tall order. But it isn't. You just have to ask. And the answer is Mekenie's! Opened in 2018 by Monna Lisa Perez, the restaurant is run by her daughter Jonnarae greeting you in the front of the house and son, ChaRly in kitchen making up your tasty fair. Located in the Cascade neighborhood of Renton, Mekenie is housed in the Cascade Mall. Although unseemingly quiet, it quickly gets packed on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, and sometimes on Sunday. The restaurant is also available for private bookings. On a technical note, their food and hospitality has aspects from the Pampangan region of the Philippines, known for its rich culinary heritage. This tradition was on display in this homestyle decor with homestyle tastes that any diner will recognize, and where Filipino Americans will find comfort. All are tasty. As an appetizer, I had the fresh, hand rolled, deep-fried pork lumpia - which came out piping hot out the fryer (awesome). I also had a traditional pork Sinigan with just the right amounts of tamarind, lemon, and tomato - making a nice clear consume broth. And just a little bit of Philippine style fish-sauce for taste. One note, no Coke products here. It must be Pepsi - Definitely a Filipino thing.Philippine brand snacks and drinks are also available to round out the experience. Stop by. Have Pepsi, and prepare to order! Mabuhay!! #supportrentoneats #mekeniefilipinorestaurant“

“stopped by on a whim as I drove down west valley highway and I was very pleased with the service and food! ordered lumpia, crispy pork belly combo and a brown sugar boba and I was blown away! the crispy pork was beyond good! came with a Mac salad some diced veggies and a wonderfully flavored rice with green onion. the lumpia was freshly made and the boba complimented everything. 10/10 would recommend“

“Service and Atmosphere: 2 Stars
The service felt rushed, and two employees in particular seemed disengaged and inattentive. They did not appear interested in listening to customers, which made the experience feel unwelcoming. Another staff member repeatedly asked us to repeat our order, yet still failed to provide what we requested. Overall, the process was chaotic, disorganized, and lacked hospitality. Additionally, some food labels were missing or mismatched, adding to the confusion.
Food: 4 Stars
The price point of $9.99 for a two-side, one-entrée dish was reasonable. The turon, chicken adobo, and pork adobo were flavorful and well-seasoned. The adobos leaning more on the sweeter side without being overly vinegary or salty. However, the mini eggs in the adobo were noticeably overcooked, suggesting they had been sitting in the dish too long. The lumpia and pancit were acceptable but not remarkable. Unfortunately, the food was served at room temperature, which diminished the overall quality—likely due to the slow-moving line.
Overall Impression
The food itself shows promise, with certain dishes standing out in flavor, but the overall experience was impacted by poor service, long waits, and inattentive staff. The cashier was the only friendly employee, though service at checkout was slow. I would consider returning when it is less crowded, with the hope that service and attentiveness improve to match the potential of the food.
Price: 8 items for $31.92“
