“My husband is a huge soccer fan so we decided to do the rehearsal dinner for our wedding this summer at the Red Lion out on the back patio. It was the most perfect venue and meal! Our friends and family raved about the food and planning everything (including drink tickets, menu, and dealing with a year long postponement during a pandemic) was easy with their event coordinator. We were able to play games on the deck and mingle and had plenty of room when a few extra unexpected guests arrived. Would recommend for any event!“

“Although I have never closed Wolski’s, I have stopped in for drinks and darts and was not disappointed! However my favorite experience at Wolski’s actually happened without ever leaving my car. I drive rideshare and was picking up there. As I pulled up, I immediately noticed the bouncer arguing with some drunk college-aged guy who was clearly being denied admission. As all his friends walked past him and handed off their ID’s, the bouncer kept dealing with his mouth, but stayed calm and just kept repeating “go home”. But Kevin thought his turtleneck and sweater combo granted him access anywhere so he tried to slip past. He made it through the first door before the bouncer body slammed him and the door slowly shut behind them. The need to know what was going on behind that door overwhelmed me and I considered getting out of my car. But my thoughts were interrupted when the door swung open and the bouncer threw Kevin out like Uncle Phil did Jazzy Jeff. The best part - the bouncer looked to be in the 50+ age category. At that point, he gave up on trying to get through the bouncer, so he moved on to trying to scale the fence. When I tell you I about died when I saw his pathetic attempts to get over it, I mean he wouldn’t have stood a chance sober with a step stool. He eventually gave up on the fence and walked around to find another way in. I wanted to follow, to see what feeble attempt he would make next, but then my riders came. Just when I thought the story couldn’t get any better, they started talking about a douchebag whose friends all left him. I told them about the guy getting body slammed and they asked if he was wearing a turtleneck. I found out one of my riders was his ex-girlfriend so I of course told the story in full. My one question to her was “does he have a weird relationship with his mom?” And they all burst out laughing. Apparently he does. Shoutout to the bouncer!“

“I had a catfish sandwich the other day and… The bread was toasted just right with butter on both sides. The onions, lettuce and tomato was perfectly crispy. The curbside appeal drew us in. The staff and the owner David immediately made us feel welcomed. The food was on point - best homemade blue cheese dressing I have ever had!! What a great little bar!! “While Milwaukee is world renowned as a city of bars, bars, bars…and bars, the city’s bar culture is unmatched anywhere else. Every bar has its own personality and stories inside their walls. What I like about here is the old school, no-fuss feel but particularly their wonderful hot sandwiches. I started with their popular Italian Bomber with mushrooms. That was so good that I followed it with a Chucktender Steak Sandwich which was soooo juicy and perfectly tender. Both sandwiches were so flavorful that I returned for a Double Cheeseburger with grilled onions. Excellent. The meat is cooked on an old grate grill which adds to the “frozen in time” feel here. Mind you, fries or tots aren’t served here. Cards are accepted (formerly cash only). The sandwiches and cozy neighborly atmosphere in addition to the lovely sandwiches (served on thick bread halves and not buns) makes here a winner in my book.“

Today, I finally had the chance to step into Jerseys Pub and Grill for my first official Fish Fry Lunch of Lent 2025! It's located at 4024 S Howell Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53207, and let me tell you – I’ve passed by this place countless times, but today, I finally got to experience it! What a hidden gem it turned out to be!
It all started when I met the owner, who just so happens to have a son at the same elementary school as my own. That’s when I discovered their Friday Fish Fry – a perfect addition to my Fish Fry Bucket List.
Now, let's dive into the mouthwatering menu options they offer on Fridays:
* Cod Fish Fry: Freshly cut lemon wedge, slaw, rye bread, and your choice of fries, potato wedges, or tater tots, all for $13.
* Fish Sandwich: Served with your choice of potato for $10.
* Shrimp Tacos: A flavorful delight for $9.50.
* Fish Tacos: Tasty and satisfying for $9.50.
* Shrimp Basket: Perfect for seafood lovers at $11.
From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the owner’s warm and friendly demeanor – she made me feel right at home. Her impeccable service really set the tone for the whole experience.
As for the food – WOW! I was served three generously-sized pieces of cod, perfectly battered with just the right amount of crispiness, yet not oily at all (huge win!). I went with the potato wedges, and they were on point – golden brown, crispy on the outside, and warm & fluffy on the inside. The slaw wasn’t the creamy type I usually prefer, but it had a delightful, crisp flavor that paired perfectly with everything else.
All in all, this was a fantastic Fish Fry Lunch that I’d definitely recommend if you’re in the area and craving something new! Another Milwaukee gem to add to your list.“
