If you appreciate history and the beauty of old stonework, you have to visit this supper club/bar. We went last night with my family to celebrate our anniversary. Perhaps a late reservation time wasn't the best idea as the prime rib was gone, in other words, it must have been good. Lovely staff, plenty of seating, so charming how it was decorated in a simple, yet engaging style. My family thoroughly enjoyed their entrees. We stumbled on to 1847 on a whim from a google search. It turns out that this is the best restaurant we have visited in the area. Great service, great atmosphere and great food!

We just happened to stop in y chance on our way through Madison. As its name implies, the bar and restaurant resides in a very old stone, brick and timber house. We stopped in for an early dinner around 430pm. We were the first table seated upstairs. The host, our waiter and the food carriers were all friendly. Our cheese curds came out relatively quickly and we're perhaps the best we had ever tasted. Our mixed gree salads with the house vinaigrette were also fresh and tasty....read full review
