Reservations open 30 days in advance, and you better believe I was poised like an Olympic athlete at 4:00 pm sharp when they dropped. The only slot left? 5:00 pm. The early bird special. Listen — we will dine at 4:37 pm if that’s what it takes. Book it. First of all, the vibe? Chef’s kiss. Mellow, classy, a little dark, lounge-y in that “you feel cooler just sitting there” kind of way. The velvety, cushy seating made me want to cancel all my plans and just live there indefinitely. And then… Carli enters the chat. Mad. Props. To. Carli. She greeted us like we were VIPs, guided us like a culinary fairy godmother, and made recommendations with the confidence of someone who knows she’s about to change your life. We trusted her immediately — as one does when greatness appears tableside. We kicked things off with shared apps: Waygu as Rockfire (buttery, melt-in-your-soul magic), Royal Flower Dumplings, Kinnickinnic Crisp Shell, and the Nobu Spicy Salmon Crispy — which Carli brilliantly suggested we sub with tuna. A visionary. An icon. A leader. Each dish somehow outdid the last. That Waygu? I will be dreaming about it for months. It was so indulgent it should require a warning label. I’m fairly certain food p0rN was invented for that exact bite. Then came the noodle debate: Pad Thai vs. Drunken Noodles. Carli said she prefers the drunken noodles, and at this point she had not steered us wrong once — so obviously we followed her lead. Now let me just say, I once took a cooking class in Thailand and made drunken noodles myself. I’ve tasted the real deal. And this version? Hands down the best I’ve had in the U.S. No question. We added shrimp, and they were light, juicy, perfectly cooked — not a single rubbery overachiever in the bunch. Absolute perfection. We wrapped it up with a hazelnut tiramisu situation. I don’t remember the exact name because we inhaled it in approximately 18 seconds. It never stood a chance. Long story short: completely, wildly worth it. My boyfriend and I live in Madison and we both agreed we will absolutely be making the drive down just to eat here again. We came for our anniversary. We left planning our next visit. And Carli? She deserves a raise, a trophy, and possibly her own holiday.“

“Fresh, Fast, and Absolutely Delicious

I had an incredible experience at Ginza Japanese Restaurant, and this picture says it all. The sushi was not only beautifully presented but also unbelievably fresh — every bite tasted clean, vibrant, and full of flavor.

The service was impressively fast, yet never felt rushed. The staff was attentive, friendly, and always checking in to make sure everything was perfect without hovering. It’s rare to find a place that balances speed with genuine care, but Ginza nails it.

We also ordered the gyoza, and they were amazing — perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. A must-try appetizer!

The prices are very competitive compared to other sushi spots in the area, especially considering the quality. You’re getting top-tier freshness and amazing presentation without overpaying, which makes this place an easy favorite.

From the delicate mango-topped roll to the crunchy tempura and the spicy rolls packed with flavor, every single piece on the plate was outstanding.

“Great sushi, yellowfin for me is always a good sign of how fresh and skilled the place is. Fantastic yellowtail sushi. Enjoyed the Dynamite Roll as well which was a combo I have not had.

Gyoza and Edamame were great starters, could of handles a little more salt on Edamame but easily fixed and personal preference.

Little details like the way she served the Sapporo, hot towels at the beginning of the meal, and the correct multiple dishes were a real plus and nice touch.

“The restaurant is a bit small, but that’s the only downside I can give you. The customer service was TOP-NOTCH. We went again the other day & the manager/owner took such good care of us. Right before we left, he even gave us some of the best dessert that I’ve had in YEARS. I’m drooling again just writing this review. On top of that, the food has never disappointed—from the sushi to the yakisoba to the fried rice to even the appetizers (etc), always super fresh & soo delish! I can assure you it’s some of the best sushi I’ve ever had.“

“Samurai is a great spot to grab fresh sushi or take the family for hibachi. I have been many times, and while the service can be hit or miss, the food is always amazing. Especially the sushi rolls. This time I ordered the Amazing roll, Phoenix roll and Edo roll. All 8 pieces. Admittedly, it was a little too much for one sitting, but everything still tasted great the next day at home for lunch. Everything was very fresh, and the flavors were in perfect combination.

This place is nice and spacious, and a great place to sample sushi choices either for lunch or dinner. Again, service can be hit or miss. However, if you're willing to stick with it, the food will absolutely not disappoint!“

“They have the best ramen that I have ever had. I don't eat pork, so it can be hard to find pork-free ramen that's flavorful. This bowl is so tasty on its own that you do not need to add any meat (or tofu) to it. I've ordered other things, but usually wish I had just stuck with the ramen cuz it's that good. Unless you can stand a lot of heat, go with the mild which is still pretty spicy. And I grew up eating Indian food, so heat is something I'm used to. And: Help support small businesses like Maki Yaki during this difficult time! You can get the ramen as take out...“
