“UPDATE: Moguls has permanently closed. Muttley's has reopened after a long closure and has taken their old restaurant space back.

Bottom line up front: the food is very good and portions are generous, but the limited choice of side dishes and sub-par service don't justify the menu prices.

Moguls is a recent addition to the local Davis/Thomas/ Canaan Valley dining scene. The food is very good, and the portions are generous. The prices are higher than other local restaurants, and are more in line with what you would expect to pay in a larger town or city.

The steaks are good, but at the high price point, one would expect the restaurant to offer a finishing sauce, such as a compound butter, bearnaise, or peppercorn sauce.

The sides that are served alongside the entrees could use more variety. The sides seem to be an afterthought, being limited to just mashed potatoes and green beans, which is serviceable for the meat and poultry dishes. But the seafood selections would be better served with something besides mashed potatoes, such as a rice pilaf or coleslaw.

Service has room for improvement. Twice now, we were only halfway through our salads and our entrees arrived. And this is after telling our server to not enter our entree order with the kitchen until we signaled her that we were done with our salads...she obviously forgot this simple request. On neither occasion was the restaurant busy, so there was no need for them to rush us through dinner to turn the tables. Also, the servers sometimes neglect to tell you about the nightly appetizer/entree specials unless you prompt them. In fact, we witnessed another diner (who had already placed his order) leave his table to go to the kitchen to change his order because he wasn't told about the grouper special by his server. A simple menu insert listing the dinner specials would solve this. Finally, they set the temperature of their beer cooler way too cold...my beer exploded out of the can upon opening it, spewing icy beer all over the table. All in all, one would expect better service given how expensive this place is.

Entrees come with a house salad and homemade bread. Beer and wine are also available.

Reservations are recommended. Also, be sure to check their FB page for weekly specials.“
