The red snapper was good, but the salmon was exquisite - cooked to perfection with a crispy sear . “We went to Modern Ocean for my husband’s birthday yesterday. We have been waiting to try this restaurant for quite a while. To say this experience was amazing, would be an understatement. Drove hrs to try this place after reading so many good things on a Calgary Food Group. Was greeted and served by Greg!!! Oysters were tender and perfect...just what I needed. I will definitely be back!!!

“Two Of us had dinner at Bar Gigi the other night. I knew it was small but even smaller than I expected. Only 20 or so seats. I'm glad they're doing so well as evidenced by how solidly booked they are. It's very much a unique experience - the food was mostly outstanding in my opinion although I didn't love the chicken - one of the 3 “mains” on offer- the other two being pork loin and the daily special, a 12 oz steak with same jus as the chicken, and frites for $75. I think I'd stick to the smaller dishes if I were to go back as they're more interesting. What I found a little odd was that the plates on offer weren't particularly complimentary to each other - maybe it was what we ordered but there was no guidance from the wait staff on that aspect so we just ordered what looked appealing and unusual. Using udon noodles for the cacio e pepe was an interesting (and practical) choice. Great texture/ mouth feel and I think the noodles absorbed more sauce than a traditional pasta. The sauce was very pecorino forward, silky and salty/cheesy and when we added more pepper it was delicious. (I know not everyone likes that much pepper but it is an integral part of the dish) I'd certainly go back for the mussels, shell less served on brioche cubes in a “lick the plate” Calabrian chili based sauce, and the prawn toast , also served on brioche. We liked the charred cabbage flavour but the texture was a little too crunchy/raw for me. The plates were thoughtfully designed and presented. The service was casual, friendly and attentive but not intrusive. It was a rare memorable Calgary dining experience. The bill came to $220 with tip for 5 plates and 2 glasses of wine.“

“I as well as my family have been dining and having delivery from Bills new location in Calgary for many years. The food for dinner for 2–excellent— added an extra entree with the deep fried shrimp . It was so delicious and so good. We recommend them highly.“

“Food was good, but there was an odd service observation. We ordered 5-6 dishes but forgot to order rice. Instead of pointing it out / making rice or noodles recommendations, the order was taken and food delivered. After everything was there we registered the issue and ordered, and waited as rice was delivered. I found this extremely odd service. Everything staff did was done well, but not highlighting a clear miss on our part leaves this as second rate service. Food was good though, no doubt.“

“My husband and I used Charbar as our reception/dinner venue for our wedding in August 2022. Besides a few hiccups, which are to be expected, we had a great experience with them! The food was amazing and all of our guests had nothing but amazing things to say about it! The venue is a beautiful spot, and minimal decor was needed. The bar staff that we had the night of were great and made sure we were taken care of. We were able to have a tasting before hand and our coordinators worked with us to come up with a specialty cocktail that fit our budget. The only thing that might have been lacking was communication between ourselves, the coordinator, and the staff working our event. We struggled to get answers back right away through email, but our wedding was around Stampede time. There were a few mix-ups the night before and the day of our wedding. For example: We were dropping off our cake the night before to be refrigerated and was told that the manager on shift would know about it. When we got there, no one had any idea what we were talking about and our cake was almost given to the wedding that was happening that night. The day of we did not have a charged microphone, and there were some technical difficulties with the sound system during our dances. It was also not communicated on our end that non-alcoholic beverages were charged @$4/drink. Our wedding party also got their food served to them last, so we had to push back our schedule with speeches. There was also supposed to be a separate table set up for our photographer to eat at, and as we were being served dinner, it was then realized she had no where to sit. These hiccups are minor, but definitely made it so there were some added stresses to the day. Besides the difficulties with communication, we would recommend Charbar for your wedding if you are looking for something that is small and simple, but still modern! I would suggest hiring a coordinator if you do choose to use Charbar, only for the fact that as a young couple who did not know the ins and outs of wedding planning, there were things that were missed through communication that shouldn't have been and a wedding coordinator would be able to avoid this with their knowledge and expertise.“
