“I’m from Philly visiting family in Edmonton. A friend recommended Phat Boy and wanted to know my opinion as I’m from the city of cheesesteaks. When I stopped by the restaurant, I spoke with the owner, who is very nice and said I was from Philly and looking forward to trying his cheesesteaks. What was interesting for me was that he imports the bread and the meat from Philly which makes a huge difference as it makes it authentic. As we talked, I also recommended that if he can, he should import to other local Philadelphia food items such as Tastykakes and pepper Hoagie Spread. Here’s honest review. The cheesesteak was very good and tasted like a genuine Philly cheesesteak. I wasn’t used to the breaded onions but it added a unique and delicious texture and taste.”

I went with the osso buco—one of my favourites—and it did not disappoint! Mine came with pasta aglio e olio, which I hadn’t tried as a pairing before, but now it’s my new go-to. The meat was fall-apart tender, loaded with flavour, and the portion size was spot on. Great food, friendly and professional service, and refreshingly down-to-earth prices. “First, the pros. The value is high; a $100-120 takeout meal will feed my family of four for three meals. The dishes are also consistent; you know what you're getting and they rarely stray from a mostly good dish. It's highly westernized Chinese food, which to be honest works well in Sherwood Park. You're not getting traditional Chinese dishes, but that's not what they're striving for here either. I rarely get a dish that is outright bad, either; maybe a single dish every ten orders.

Delivery is fast (sometimes too fast!) and the older man who handles takeout payments / pickup is always prompt and friendly. The pickup deal is amazing, too, when you consider that you also save on delivery fees and tips (I don't tip on pickup; only delivery or table service). I haven't dined in here for over a decade, so I can't speak to that experience.

Next, the cons. The sauces are a bit too much at times and there's usually one dish that's too salty or sweet. The sweet and sour pork (too sweet) and the beef and vegetable (too salty) come to mind, even after considering that this is takeout food.

I also wish they had more dim sum options, specifically sesame balls and steamed rice noodle rolls. That said, there's not many dim sum options in Sherwood Park so I'll take what I can get. I would love to have some traditional Chinese dishes offered (I love century eggs), but understand why they haven't offered them here yet. Maybe as Sherwood Park very slowly diversifies, so will their menu.

To sum it up, Good Buddy is my go-to for westernized Chinese food in Sherwood Park. Yes, there are better options in Edmonton, but we're not in Edmonton. There are room for improvements, but they're generally pretty good. Until a new restaurant truly challenges them, they're the number one in Sherwood Park.

Parking: There is a shared strip mall parking lot with tons of parking. Other business that share the lot are either very small or are closed by the time supper begins.”

I’m the talent acquisition manager for a trucking company, and I’m up here hiring drivers, because we are expanding, so trying to find a quick good meal in between interviews is so hard! “my husband and I stopped in halfway through happy hour on a Friday and were thrilled at what we found! the prices at happy hour are stupidly reasonable (loaded nachos for $8?? a delicious pint for $6??? wild). our server Debbie was very attentive, and the staff seemed to work together really well. the pub is immaculate but still has that dim cozy vibe you're looking for. it wasn't overcrowded but still had a nice conversational buzz. we'll definitely be back!”

“As a disabled person 👨🏻‍🦽,not all local places are accessible. Almost feels on purpose sometimes. Sherlock’s in Sherwood Park is a different story. Friendly accommodating staff like I’ve never experienced. Their tables are well spaced with a good wide path to the accessible bathrooms that a chair can actually fit in and close the door. Food and drinks are prompt , disabled parking always available. I’m going to mention how great the staff are again because they even go out of their way to set up a shorter table near the action on open mic nights . Also the best place for open mic’s Thursdays to see new emerging talent, with the most awesome host and artist Jake Buckley. He’s got a way a making everyone feel comfortable in a laid back atmosphere. I don’t even live in the park or write reviews , but I travel here because they go above.”
