“Delicious coffee. The owners are knowledgeable and friendly. Got some good advice on making a french press coffee at home. The surroundings are cosy and the place is immaculate. On the days i schlep into Courtenay, the veggie breakfast wrap is such a treat. I am really glad they decided to move to the Valley.”

“Loved the custom vegan soft serve. So delicious! So fast despite being so busy… So cute, AND the best part was how they were not excessively sweet. Just right!!! A little relieved we’re just visiting and I won’t have to fight urges to visit every day!!”

“My sister and I drove from Nanaimo to try Javier's for the first time and we weren't disappointed! We shared the Peruvian Potatoes, Tortilla Soup, Tacos Dorados, Araminta's Chicken, and the Deep Fried Ice Cream. All of the food was so tasty and I loved the mix of Latin foods! We were also treated to delicious rice pudding during their anniversary week. We will be back very soon, it was well worth the drive!”
“Where do I start. I spent a quick weekend in Comox and Gigi's was on my bucket list, and I'm so glad it was. It should be on everyone's bucket list. I dined here twice for late night dinner. Probably ate my yearly quota of oysters between the 2 days, but the staff were so fun, friendly and knowledgeable. They were super busy both nights but still took the time with each order and customer to make everyone feel at home. It was thanks to the care of the oyster shucker supreme there that I finally found the name of oysters I like, instead of just ordering anything like I normally do. The food from the kitchen really highlighted the skill and care that went into pairing the ingredients together. It wasn't just food, it was, pardon the cheese, a culinary journey. But that's just the vibe there. I chose to sit at the bar and it was a great way to make conversation with others, especially when dining solo. Like one big communal, family table. But more on the food! The crudo was super fresh and just that drizzle of oil balanced raw+oily nicely. If I wasn't obsessed with oysters, that would have been my go to raw starter. The shrimp roll was like a delicious cloud of creamy saltiness, and the caesar salad? I get why it's nicknamed the best caesar in Comox. The smoked salmon rillette had just the right amount of oil to keep the salmon together on the crostini and every bite was a joy, without fear of any soggy mess.Aside from oysters I do also have a soft spot for seafood chowder (I did a literal tour along the Irish coast just trying chowders one year), and despite having eaten so much already, I did not feel overwhelmed. Full, yes, but not that bad kind of full. The chowder was just perfect to end the night. It reminded me of the Irish chowders I had. And it's always a treat when food brings you back to good memories.1,000 compliments to the chef!Kid-friendliness: For an upscale place, it was nice to see families dine in and be warmly welcome.”

“Recently had the joy of trying the (best I've ever had) breakfast sandwich and a perfectly crafted latte. The owner's have poured their heart and soul into this establishment, which is well shown by not only the expertly brewed coffee/espresso beverages and delicious menu offerings, but the beautifully decorated and bright space. Boasting a cozy atmosphere, amazing drinks and food that absolutely slaps, Laneway Cafe and Kitchen completes Cumberland's downtown core.”

“Visiting the island and we discovered this gem! I'm a former Montrealer who has had many, many Greek style pizza....meaning lots of cheese, thick crust and loaded down with toppings. These thin crust, light on sauce pizzas may be the best I ever tasted. It's huge, although eight slices, airy and light....I had the Grow a Pear....omg, it may be the best I ever had! You need to eat here!”

“The best reasonably priced resto in Courtenay, I think. Many thanks to our server on Tuesday night for her sense of humour and kindness to my Dad and me. (I could eat one of the pulled pork tacos every day for a year and still want more!)”

“The restaurant looks unassuming and on a side street, but once we ordered food and a nice pilsner beer, it turns out this is a place you don't want to miss. Simply put , it was one of the best hamburgers we've ever had and reasonably priced as well. When we're in Cumberland next time, this will be our goto for burgers and beer.”
“I typically like to stop in for an early afternoon cookie and their selection consists of some very good cookies. My favourites include a malted chocolate chip cookie and a gluten free chocolate cookie. There are an other choices available and all are good. Their bread pudding is quite decadent and is also a good dessert item. The staff are friendly and there are tables available to those that wish to stay and relax while they enjoy their coffee and snack.”

“It took over 10 years from when I first heard that the new Canex will be getting a "popular coffee franchise." I never would have thought I was going to have to pour my own coffee though. Not that it's a problem. The machines are easy to use and it tastes like Tim Hortons.”
