“I really like their pad Thai! Good portion! Authentic flavour, sweet with lots of tamarind in it. Good wok taste as well. The only thing is they use green onion in lieu of chives, and they don’t give enough fresh bean sprout on the side.

Their papaya salad is disappointing. Medium spicy is barely spicy at all, more like mild. They also use bottle lime and you can taste it! The overall flavour is just not there. Portion is also quite small (just a bunch of lettuce underneath to increase the volume).

I didn’t get it this time but I remember loving their spring rolls because it tasted just like in Thailand!“

“First of all, the food we ordered was delicious, but that’s not what I want to talk about today!

I was there with a large group of friends, and while carrying a dessert dish, I accidentally bumped into a pillar I didn’t see. The dish fell and the dessert went all over the floor. I was so embarrassed and worried that I had caused a big inconvenience.

Within seconds, a waitress rushed over, told me not to worry, and made me feel completely comfortable. The staff cleaned everything up so quickly and brought us a fresh dessert within minutes.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the waitress’s name, but I truly hope she gets recognized. The customer service here is next level! ❤“

“Hands down one of the best Thai spots in Vancouver (and let's be honest, there are a lot of disappointing ones here). The flavors overall were incredibly tasty and authentic!

The Hits: The Som Tum (papaya salad) was spot-on, perfectly seasoned and balanced. The Pad Thai was right on point, and the Green Curry with sticky rice was absolute perfection—super flavorful!

The Spice Level: We ordered medium spicy, but it really wasn't spicy at all—they definitely dial it down for the local palate here. If you want a real kick like authentic Thai food in Thailand, you should definitely order hot or extra spicy. If you can't handle spice, mild or non-spicy will suit you fine.

The Ok: The Sao Khoi was good, though it felt like it was missing a secondary balancing flavor.

The Miss: The major letdown was the Crying Tiger Beef. It was honestly terrible—zero smoky flavor and completely chewy. I could literally make a better version blindfolded.

Pro Tip on Timing: Do not go at dinner on a weekday unless you want to wait 30–40 minutes outside. They really need to implement an online waitlist system like other busy spots. Go for lunch instead—we got seated immediately! Overall, 4/5 stars.“

“A bit of a later post as we visited in October and they had just opened recently. So take that with a grain of salt when reading this.

This little shop is located in Knight Street (near Kingsway). It was kinda chilly inside even with the space heaters. The wooden chairs weren't that comfortable.

We ordered the Pad Thai ($19 add shrimp +$2),
Green Curry Chicken ($18) which was fairly spicy. I really liked the small green eggplants that came in the curry. Ordered the Jasmine Rice ($3) which is really necessary for curry.

We decided to try the Silom Platter ($27) so we could try a little bit of everything. It came with grilled chicken wings, grilled pork jowl, pork balls, papaya salad (they did tell us when we ordered that it would take about 25 mins to grill the food). Good flavors.

We also ordered the Roti ($8) which came with curry dipping sauce. I think they forgot our order because the dish didn't come out and I had to ask for it after finishing most of our meal already. The roti is very light and airy and crispy. Unlike other roti that we've had in the past at other places, there were no layers to make the roti fluffy inside but I still think this dish was good.

Could use some refinement on service as we had to ask for our water to be refilled and they forgot one of our disheseven though there was only 1 other table when we visited. Note that we visited a couple of months ago so things may have changed.

UPDATE - Aug 2026: It's been about a year since we last visited and I have to say this place is better than I remembered. I think the menu has changed a bit.

We had the Pad Ka Pao Moo Grob ($23.5) which is stir-fried crispy pork belly with chili, Thai holy basil, and a fried egg over rice. There was a nice crispness to the pork and the sauce was very savory.

The Green Curry Chicken ($19) with coconut milk, bamboo shoots, and Thai eggplant had a nice heat level and was creamy. Meanwhile, the Crispy Shrimp Pancakes ($13.5) were also quite crispy and had a shrimp and pork filling mixed with herbs.

We also wound up ordering the Thai Iced Tea ($6) and appropriately named Green Soda ($6).“

“Had a great meal at Sawasdee Thai. The butterfly pea-dyed dumplings with crispy garlic were a beautiful starter, served with pickled carrots for a nice fresh contrast. The drunken noodles with chicken, mushrooms, and Thai basil had great wok hei and balanced sauce, and the fried rice was fragrant and fluffy with tomato and cilantro.

Portions were generous and everything came out fresh and hot — as someone who's worked in kitchens, I could tell there was real care in the execution. Our server Donut was also super friendly and walked us through the menu really well. Will definitely be back!“

“My kid and I were in the area today because there was a store we wanted to check out. Of course, it was closed. So we ended up wandering a bit and stumbled across Papaya Hut, figured why not, and went in for lunch.

We were invited to seat ourselves, and a friendly woman came over pretty quickly with menus and water, which I was genuinely grateful for because it was a scorcher outside. I'm in my fifties, so between the heat, the walk over, and a little help from menopause, I was fanning myself like crazy even with the AC running. I always carry a little handheld fan for exactly this reason, and when she came back to take our order, she complimented me on it, which was such a sweet, unexpected touch.

I got the green beans, and my kid ordered the spring rolls since they weren't all that hungry. The food came out fast, faster than I expected, and it looked really good. I eat a lot of green beans, they're probably my favorite dish overall, and these were excellent. They came with rice and a spring roll on the side, and honestly both were so good I couldn't tell you which I liked more.

We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area. Good food, kind service, and a happy accident of a lunch stop.“
