“I recently visited The Basic on Main Street in Vancouver with my best friend and my two kids, and we had such a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is casual, comfortable, and gives off a really wholesome family vibe — perfect for a relaxed meal out. I ordered the veggie hash, which was absolutely amazing — fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying. The kids loved their pancakes, and my daughter was thrilled with her hot chocolate topped with whipped cream (a big hit!). Our server, Jesse, was fantastic. She was friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome throughout the meal. Overall, great food, great service, and great vibes. We’ll definitely be back!“

“If you're tired of overpriced pretentious restaurants in Vancouver, and want some old school comfort food served by experienced attentive staff, you must try this Vancouver landmark. First time I've been here in 50 years and it will not be the last. The sole waitress was also the hostess, cashier, busser, and coffee refiller. The owner cooked, served and cashier. With restaurants dropping like flies in Vancouver due to high cost and labour shortage, it's amazing to see how efficiently this old school diner is run to keep labour cost and menu prices down.“

“The staff and the food were so good. There are so many options to choose from for breakfast. And thier lattes are made with a really nice espresso. I loved the ambiance of the dinner too.“

“The owner was really selling their chilli oil rice noodles to us so we gave it a try and it did not disappoint. The sauce was sour and savoury with a hint of garlic, and the chilli oil was super aromatic and not spicy at all. The gluten soaked up all the sauce so every bite just made me want to have more. However I wish there were more of them, so I mentioned that to the owner and they ended up giving me more! The owner is very proud of their food having the authentic taste and fresh ingredients. We also tried the sticky rice dessert which had dates and red beans and was steamed for over 8 hours, giving that rich and soft texture. It was the perfect not too sweet treat after all the sour and savoury.“

“Always great food and exceptional service! We ordered mushroom soup, fried rice, beef stew and the passion fruit fish, all excellent. We have been visiting with a baby in the past few times, the girls there always went over and beyond for us. The most recent time our server was Carmen who was really nice.“

“We were not hungry and just wanted a quick snack. This spring onion pancake was perfect for that.
Its layers gave a great texture, it was crispy outside and chewy inside. It was quite tasty as well.
We would come back to try its other items.
The only thing was it seemed many people just sitting in the food court occupying tables. As a result, it might be difficult to find a table available for a family.“

“Argo Burger topped with bacon, cheese, fried onions and egg is served alongside a mound of fries. Delicious, whether eaten hot or cold. Fried chicken burger is one of the best in town. Fish and chips came with equal amounts of both, which translates into lots. Creamy Chicken chili con queso and heaping plateful of Spicy lamb on their respective beds of rice were stick-to-your-bones good. Then there's the home-baked pie and the OMG butter tart! If you're searching for comfort food with a serving of easy hospitality, this old-school Mount Pleasant diner is where you'll find it. #EastVanLoveRules“
