First time I've been here in 50 years and it will not be the last. The sole waitress was also the hostess, cashier, busser, and coffee refiller. The owner cooked, served and cashier. With restaurants dropping like flies in Vancouver due to high cost and labour shortage, it's amazing to see how efficiently this old school diner is run to keep labour cost and menu prices down.“

“The staff at the basic are incredible! I was having a really rough day, and ordered for pickup. On the phone I asked the women for an order of sanity at the end. She laughed said “oh I’ll try” Not expecting anything but a laugh. I went to pick up the food and was pleasantly surprised to find some “sanity” in my order. It honestly made my day.“

We have been here before and always enjoy their congee.
Only this time I decided to order their beef rice roll to give it a try.
I’m glad I did because it is very delicious, filling and made fresh.
