“A unique and old school north american diner experience with large portion sizes, quick service, compact seating, and juke boxes. The brunch options are plenty and veggie options are customizable. The milkshakes are easily sharable by two people. The prices are not bad for the portion sizes. I recommend checking out the place, it's worth it.“

“I recently visited The Basic on Main Street in Vancouver with my best friend and my two kids, and we had such a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is casual, comfortable, and gives off a really wholesome family vibe — perfect for a relaxed meal out. I ordered the veggie hash, which was absolutely amazing — fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying. The kids loved their pancakes, and my daughter was thrilled with her hot chocolate topped with whipped cream (a big hit!). Our server, Jesse, was fantastic. “If you're tired of overpriced pretentious restaurants in Vancouver, and want some old school comfort food served by experienced attentive staff, you must try this Vancouver landmark. First time I've been here in 50 years and it will not be the last. The sole waitress was also the hostess, cashier, busser, and coffee refiller. The owner cooked, served and cashier. With restaurants dropping like flies in Vancouver due to high cost and labour shortage, it's amazing to see how efficiently this old school diner is run to keep labour cost and menu prices down.“

“Sooooo good, the stir fried noodle is so aromatic and flavorful, full of cumin spices and not too oily. We just devoured our two other dishes and couldn’t even wait to take the pictures. The sticky rice is so soft and gooey, the dates complimented so well. Highly recommend if you wanted to try good xi’an dishes.“

“A lovely restaurant with some very unique Yunnan flavours. The food was overall very good, especially if you enjoy bold, savoury dishes. Some items are on the expensive side for what you get, which is the main reason I’m giving it four stars rather than five.

Service was top notch — attentive, friendly and efficient. The decor is beautiful and gives the restaurant a warm, distinctive atmosphere.

There is a small parking lot on site, although spaces can be limited.

Overall, a good choice if you’re looking to try something a little different from the usual Chinese restaurant fare, especially if you enjoy rich, savoury flavours.“

“We were not hungry and just wanted a quick snack. This spring onion pancake was perfect for that.

Its layers gave a great texture, it was crispy outside and chewy inside. It was quite tasty as well.

We would come back to try its other items.

The only thing was it seemed many people just sitting in the food court occupying tables. As a result, it might be difficult to find a table available for a family.“
