About Holy Chow

Holy Chow, also known as Lucky Penny, is a restaurant that offers unique and delicious Asian food. The owner is known for being fantastic and accommodating, once even making food for a hungry couple after the kitchen had closed. The menu features dishes with rich flavors and generous portion sizes, such as the fried chicken and the rice and noodle bowls. The restaurant has a cozy and unpretentious atmosphere, focusing on food and service rather than providing an upscale setting. The location may be a bit confusing, but the kind staff at a nearby social services organization are willing to help. However, the environment can be marred by loud and controversial customers, and the staff's attempts to calm them down may not always be successful. Overall, Holy Chow offers good food and service, but the dining experience can be affected by the behavior of other customers.

If you’re looking for an upscale setting there is probably many other places in downtown Vancouver for you. But for great food and friendly service they deliver above and beyond. The 2 rice and 1 noodle bowl dishes we had were packed with flavour and a generous portion size.

I was already in the area and was craving some (vegetarian) Asian food. Holy Chow seemed like the perfect choice. When I arrived, a note was on the door apologizing for a late opening. As I was standing out in the rain, I saw that next door looked like a social services org, and I entered. This turned out to be C'ow Aa housing, and the folks there were kind enough to let me wait inside to stay dry until Holy Chow opened.Once I got into Holy Chow (which is also called Lucky Penny?...read full review
