“Portions are HUGE! Came here my myself and got two things and was surprised by the size when they came.Khao soy ($18) was good. Fresh noodles were soft and not overcooked. Flavor was good without being too salty.Fried clear rice roll wraps ($18) were crispy and tasty. I’ve had a hard time finding these in other restaurants. Love that it comes with lettuce and fresh herbs to balance it out.Would definitely come back to try their other items, but recommend coming with friends to share the large portions.“
“We came here for dinner and had a great meal! We ordered the Thai iced tea to drink, the Lao sausages as an appetizer, and the pad see ew with beef, phao larb, and yellow curry with chicken as mains. Everything was good, and the service was excellent! The spice levels here are no joke, so definitely stay below levels 2-3. The owner is super nice, and she even explained the differences between Laotian and Thai cuisine to us!“
“Visited this local Lao spot on a friend’s recommendation and wow, it didn’t disappoint! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was cozy and welcoming - exactly what you’d want from a neighborhood gem. The service was on point too; our server was super friendly, gave us great recommendations, and really knew their stuff. Now, let’s talk food because that’s the real star here. I went for the Pad Kee Mao, and it was absolutely delicious - spicy, flavorful, and just packed with all the good stuff. But the unexpected highlight? Their oysters! Affordable, fresh, and just so tasty, they were a total game-changer for me. It’s not often you find such quality at those prices.Overall, this place is a must-visit if you’re in the mood for some authentic Lao cuisine or just in search of a solid dining experience. Great food, great prices, and great service. I’ll definitely be back!“
“I have had plenty of Thai/Laos food, with some favorites. Therefore, I believe my experiences meet the requirements to post a review. Without any biases, Sue's Kitchen is AMAZING!!! If I had a microphone, yes it would have been dropped. A must try, the Onion Rings and Calamari (yes it's fried, what did you think?). Any time I go to a 'new-to-me' Thai restaurant, I get the Pad Thai and Spicy Basile Chicken. Great dishes to use as a measuring rod. In my loud voice, "OUTSTANDING" !!! This is just the beginning of my journey through Sue's menu. Hope to see you along the way!!!“
“This was my first time there and I absolutely loved the food. We sat at the bar on a Friday night for dinner and there was a happy hour until 8:00. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees and put them between the two of us. There was so much food we had to take the leftovers home. I can't wait to go back and try more things on the menu! I give it ?????“
“A restaurant that proves two theories true: that Laotian cuisine is one of the world’s best, and that the tastiest food is almost never the prettiest. A meal to remember many moons from now, for $23.50. Order any of the Lao specialties from the menu’s first page.“
“It was delicious!Don't be fooled by the photos posted here, just go to their website and see their full menu and pictures there. You can order there to go or pick up too.We had dinner in the place and wanted to try different things. The place is small and cozy, the decoration is beautiful and the space looks clean and nice. The service was fast, and welcoming. Also the server made sure as we were ordering to much, to let us know when it was too much, and we appreciated it.When the food arrived we were so happy all looked so good and tasty and it got even better when we tried it. So good and so generous! The spring rolls were so tasty and the sauce was great too.The Cashew nut Chicken wok was sweet and savory and a little spicy with a really nice texture and fresh vegetables. The chicken panang curry was also amazing, with a taste of coconut and fresh vegggies.Really nice food.We (2ppl) ate enough to be full and brought home some left overs. The total price was 48 + tip, which is a fair price for the quality, the service and the amount of food they served us.I'd definitely come back and recommend others to come try.“
“Super fresh, good for a variety of eaters with different appetites. Very happy with my clay pot veggies, steamed to just tender and well seasoned/sauced. Service was a little scattered, but it might have been a busier lunch shift than normal.“
“We had diner at Thai Lao restaurant this evening with some friends and got a wonderful experience. The restaurant is very cosy and well managed, the food is delicious healthy and the plates well served. People are efficient, dedicated and polite. Special thanks to the boss, a wonderful women, Merci beaucoup et q bientôt!“
“Really a hidden gem. David and family provide the best Cambodian food. You can tell they care about their food, as they offer to not give you the noodles cooked so you can have them at optimum level at home. Everything is good here but a bit spicy.“
“Friday after work, I passed by this place and decided to check it out. The restaurant environment is Thai-style, giving me a peaceful and cozy feeling. I ordered basil chicken and a Lao orange drink. The basil chicken dish is very delicious, a bit of spicy though. The waitress is very pleasant and warm. I noted most customers are young. But I love it as a middle age woman“
“Although I'm Mien, their khao soi here is 99% identical to the way my mom makes it. The sausage is also almost the same way my parents make it. The food here is very authentic (as most hole in the wall places that's situated in the hood) and homey, which is a good thing. Don't expect no Instagrammable type presentation or decor/ambiance, come here for the food. It is made to cater the Lao and a couple of the Laotian hilltribe communities here in Richmond and those who know these communities and love their food.“
“Food:- Duck curry was phenomenal, that’s why this is 5⭐️ for me.- The papaya salad with crab was hard to eat and not my favorite but would be great for those that love fermented seafood flavors.- Pad see ew was average to pretty good- naked prawns were good, normal shrimp- crispy pork belly sweet basil was solid taste but not crispy at all. Maybe they let it sit in the sauce too long.- the people next to us got the wings and I can’t speak to the taste but I didn’t realize they were wings at first they were so small. Had almost no meat at all.Drink:- Saap ver knock-out was solid- saap ver damn good was really tasty if you like lychee. Whatever they rim it with was a great texture and good sweet and spicyService was prompt and did a good job of anticipating needs.Came out to ~$160 for all of the above. (excepting the wings)“
“A rare treasure find!!! This restaurant captures the essence of a genuine Laotian dining experience with its authentic ambiance and homemade dishes that are unique to this establishment. The Laosausages and noodles are particularly delightful, and their tomato sauce is extraordinary. It truly reminds me of the authentic, home-cooked Laotian meals from back home! Also I love the waiter. Reminds me of my uncle!“
“I got food for takeout! Unfortunately no pictures because I was too excited to eat, haha. Ordered online and food was not quite ready when I arrived to pick up, but the lovely person behind the counter was eager to help me with packing utensils and extras. She asked if I wanted hot sauce and I agreed; came home to find out she had packed not only a container of chili sauce, but also individual containers of chili oil and chili powder! It also turns out I didn't need it; the spice here is real, haha. Not enough to stop me from eating it, but enough to remind me of consequences a day later. As others have noted, the pad see ew (and probably the pad Thai though I have not tried it yet) are sweeter than I am used to. I'm not sure why it gave me vibes of maple syrup.Everything was well packed. I got the khao soi (curry noodle soup) and none of it spilled in transit. I don't know why the restaurant was pretty empty around noon on a Wednesday, but I'm definitely coming back to try more of the menu.“
“Haven't been to Chai Thai Noodle for a while, way before the pandemic. Probably 5-6 years, sister said they have $5 happy hour noodles samplers (4 kinds of noodles- see photos for the specials).I suggested order 2 different bowls of noodles per person if you're hungry, that's only $10! The boat noodles were our favorites.“
“Chai Tai Noodles in Berkeley, CA, exceeded my expectations with a dining experience that was nothing short of exceptional. The culinary journey began with the Larb, a dish bursting with freshness and a delightful blend of flavors. The aromatic and flavorful Yellow Curry left a lasting impression, showcasing the chef's expertise in crafting rich and nuanced Thai dishes. The Pad Thai at Chai Tai is a true standout, offering the perfect balance of spiciness and a medley of tastes that danced on my taste buds. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, highlighting the authenticity and quality of the ingredients. To top it off, the lunch deal at Chai Tai is an absolute win. Not only does it offer a diverse selection of delectable dishes, but it also provides excellent value for the culinary journey you embark on.The attentive service and inviting ambiance added to the overall positive experience, making Chai Tai a standout Thai restaurant in Berkeley.
