Absolutely Exceptional – A Must-Visit in Del Mar

Monarch Ocean Pub exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed and well taken care of. The open-air setting overlooking the street gives the perfect mix of energy and ease — you feel part of the buzz of Del Mar while enjoying a relaxed, elegant meal.

Our server, Bo, was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and genuinely delightful to talk with (we even discovered she went to Indiana University, which made it feel like a small-world connection!).

Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor — from the fresh oysters and crisp Caesar salad to the soft Parker House rolls, the shrimp and lobster sliders, and the finale of melt-in-your-mouth Hawaiian donuts. Each bite was perfection.

“Our server, Patrick was impressive. It was our first time to dine out for Thanksgiving and we were delighted with the option to have traditional turkey or order from menu. The turkey and dressing were delicious and flavorful ( dressing had sausage). We also ordered crabbed stuff mushroom caps that had a light parma cheese that was crispy. The pumpkin cheesecake with vanilla ice cream was outstanding. We were not disappointed and would absolutely recommend Ruth's Chris for holidays. All the servers were attentive even with a packed dining room.“

“Really nice variety on their dinner menu.... Salads, small plates/appetizers, pasta to fish to steak, pork chops, etc... Their wine list is also nice... So you should be able to find something to pair with your dinner. If not, try a mocktail, cocktail or beer. We sat on their upstairs patio where we could sort of watch the sunset over the water. Yes, there were buildings and trees in our sightlines but still nice. Service was very good considering they were slammed. Will definitely be back again.“

“I've been going for about a year now. I have a yoga membership and then join the restaurant probably about once a month or so. I love the yoga classes, there is a great variety with knowledgeable instructors. The food is amazing as well along with it being locally owned. Ray & Mark went above and beyond in making our daughter-in-laws 50th birthday celebration special. The 50th balloons, cake accessories, & gift card were unexpected & appreciated. As for the service from the staff it has always been exceptional. Most recently Saul has always taken care of me with recommendations on drinks and food. “We made a reservation for thanksgiving dinner. I was surprised to be seated at folding tables and chairs that is not the dining experience we expected had when we booked our reservation. Had I known I would not have booked our family dinner there. When your spending $50+ person I would expect better seating arrangements. The server and staff were great!“

The only food downside ( which is why I gave Food a 4 out of 5 rating), is their Ceaser salad...it is consistently bland, really watery, and tasteless...such an unpleasant surprise given that ALL of the other salads are so delicious, and ALL of the other food is delicious. Rosina, PLEASE update the Ceaser salad..it is really awful.“

We sat on the patio, which is plenty warm with all the space heaters. Excellent service. They don't rush you. “Visited for a special event dinner with Epoch winery from Paso Robles. The owner of the store was exceedingly gracious and friendly and the event was a great success. The store has a pretty wide range of wine offerings as well as local craft beers, with several exclusive/harder to get wines as well as more mainstream options. The store is admittedly "Paso-centric" in their overall portfolio, but the prices are consistent with what you would see at the wineries. They also have cheeses for sale at the front counter.“

Wifi, TVs and indoor outdoor space make it ideal for people watching or mingling. Just a heads up, it's a bit pricer with fewer options than nearby spots like Station Sushi, but hey, quality ain't cheap! ?? ??
