“A hidden gem. Was introduced to this quaint oasis by friends. Since then, it has become one of my favorite haunts. The owner is extremely courteous, very generous and hospitable. We started by going there for dinner but on one occasion wanted to celebrate a friend’s birthday for lunch and needed and requested an extended and uninterrupted experience. So we were allowed to stay on beyond the 2:30 pm shut down before dinner in a very cosy and welcoming setting. The host was most attentive when needed but did not try to rush our ordering of lunch menu selections and even suggested to try some new dishes on the menu. I take all my special guests to the bungalow on rose for an exquisite dining experience.“

“We love this place, but my only complaint is that there are no kids portions/options. You have to understand from parent perspective. If my kids don’t like anything I am not going there even if I love it. Kids don’t always like same food, so now I’m stuck with getting each kid full price item. For example one of my kids likes chicken noodle soup but he can never finish the whole thing. The other one does not like it so 1/2 of it is a waste. Now I got to order something for the other kid which loved chicken satay which he also does not finish. You see how it quickly adds up. And I guess it’s ok if they eat the whole thing but they don’t. So when we choose a place to go we would more likely to go somewhere where they have kids menu. Also kids don’t eat complicated dishes, esp spicy food or souses so ordering from regular menu is very tough. For example they dont like pineapple fried rice which might seem like a tasty dish for kids but not all kids eat that. Just asking for some plain kids options, I’d be here many more times a week. But at this point, I can only take the fam here 1x every couple of weeks max.“

“I had a great experience at this Thai restaurant. It has a nice cozy mom n’ pop atmosphere to it. Service was good, I ordered a cup of tom yum soup with a side of jasmine rice and it was very yummy. My friend who I went with is from Castro Valley and they always order the Pad Kee Mao. Super solid option if you’re craving noodles and a bit of spice! This is just my preference but I really liked how they used glass cups for water rather than plastic like how most restaurants use. The only thing that I wish they included on their menu is a papaya salad. I love papaya salad so I was a bit disappointed when I couldn’t find it on the menu. Overall, this was a solid Thai restaurant so I would recommend trying it and supporting their small business!“

“First off, this place has been here for as long as I can remember. During my college years, I have seen this place and almost 20 years later, it is still here. Longevity in the restaurant business is tough so when looking for a place to add to my takeout list as a new resident to Castro Valley, I had to give this place a try.

I have been in Castro Valley for about 7 months now and have gotten take out from here at least 5 times and every single time, my wife and I have been greeted and treated with love by the owners. Were there a few times where I had to wait a little while longer because of how busy they were or issues in the kitchen? Of course yes, stuff like that happens. I am a patient and understanding person. What is always consistent is the warmth that the owner just seems to emit, it must be the Thai culture and personality as having traveled to Thailand more than a handful of times, I felt the the love from the people.

Now for the food. We usually order pad see eww, crab fried rice, angel wings and a few currys. The food always comes super hot and delicious, havent had a bad experience yet with the food. Honestly, what keeps me coming back is the lady that runs the place, I adore her and the love she treats people with.“

“We are vegetarian and tried their tikka masala tofu wraps, and the fries. Excellent taste, healthy ingredients, made fresh and fries were baked. The mint drink was refreshing 💚. Overall we loved the quality of the food. Maria was particularly great at hospitality.“

“I met friends (who had never experienced Thai food before) at House of Basil for lunch. I ordered for us, because I'm a big fan of Thai food, and selected Satay, Green Curry with Chicken, Rendang Beef, and of course, some Pad Thai. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant, and will definitely return when I'm back in the area!“

“A little shop in the stripe serving skinless moist chicken over rice. Comes with sauce and soup for take out. The chicken is not gamey which is big plus for me. Healthy choice. It’s refreshing over fried/oily food. I only wish they gave a little more veggie and sauce or ask if we’d like some sauce over the rice. I found the sauce not enough for my chicken and rice but still delicious. Would def return when around the area.“

“Fresh good food which is not too salty or too spicy. Was surprised they played no loud music, huge plus from me - I was capable of focusing in my food and enjoy it. Portion sizes smaller than you would expect in the local restaurants, but still more than enough to feel full. And dishes were priced accordingly. In my opinion the combination of food quality, pricing, and atmosphere was just right and not too much. Will visit this place again.“
