Went to Mokkoji recently for a weekday lunch and we got there right before it opened at 11:30 am. I hadn't been there in probably at least 6 or 7 years, and when we used to go for dinner, it was always really crowded. But on a Tuesday, after the initial 4 or 5 parties went in at opening, the place was pretty empty. The two bar areas remained empty and there was plenty of seating available even as we left. It was very good and a lot of fun. My first time and I can tell it takes a while to get the hang of it. I overcooked my veggies by putting too many in at the same time. The spicy broth didn't have much flavor and I liked my girlfriend's chicken broth much better. It would be nice to have a small slotted ladle to fish out the food because you can't see it while the broth is boiling and it's a bit challenging finding and fishing it out small pieces with chopsticks.

Love Mokkoji!! Garden Grove, Costa Mesa, and Irvine are our top locations. The broth is rich and well flavored, the meats are fresh and well prepared, the vegetables are colorful and well organized.
