Heritage Restaurant, Long Beach – A Well-Earned Michelin Star by Michael Broderick.
In a city where “Californian” culinary ambition often plays second fiddle to casual dining, Heritage in Long Beach has carved out a place of quiet excellence, earning a well-deserved Michelin star. This intimate dining experience is a testament to ingredient-driven, technique-forward cooking, where flavors are both restrained, unpretentious, and deeply expressive.

Heritage, a reimagined house on the corner of a street, offers a truly exceptional dining experience. The restaurant's intent is to create a homey and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff strive to provide friendly and professional service. The menu features a pre-fixe tasting menu, showcasing a good variety and inventive flavors. Diners can expect to be surprised by the creativity of the cuisine, with even dishes they typically dislike becoming favorites. Highlights include the Iberico pork and the ridiculously delightful dessert of blood orange froyo with candied kumquat granita.
Recent guests have praised the delicious food and attentive, friendly service. The scallop dish, in particular, made one diner so happy they wanted to dance, and others enjoyed watching the team prepare each dish, wishing they had the same talent. The wine pairings are well-executed and complement the flavors perfectly. Although some found the stools at the counter a bit uncomfortable, overall, guests felt welcomed and enjoyed the warm, intimate setting. Celebrations such as birthdays were special, especially with the fall menu, which included standout dishes like the scallop.
Heritage has recently elevated its service and dish execution, earning a Michelin star. With just four seats at the counter and six tables, guests experience warm home hospitality in a cozy environment. The tasting menu is now set at $160 per person, with 12 thoughtfully curated bites of umami, textures, and flavor profiles. Most produce and herbs are grown in the Heritage Farm nearby, following a zero-waste philosophy by repurposing excess ingredients into compost for the gardens. While the dining room can be slightly noisy, the overall experience remains exceptional, making it a perfect spot for a date night or celebration.
