Chong's Szechwan Restaurant Reviews
In all my life eating Chinese food this is one of the top three best places
I’ve been eating Chinese food for a long long time anywhere from France to Canada and of course, here in the United States this particular restaurant is nothing special to look at. Yes the booths are comfortable. It’s completely old-school it took a little while for us to get our meal delivered to our table, but when it got to our table, everything was clearly made fresh and super delicious! Chong's Szechwan Restaurant, located in downtown Monterey, has new owners and has been updated with a cleaner interior. The restaurant is known for its delicious special noodle or wonton soup, which can be customized with mushrooms and broccoli, and has a broth that is so good it can be a main meal for two adults. The lunch specials are around $10-$12 and include white rice, with options to upgrade to fried rice. The Hong Kong style chow mein is a favorite among customers, praised for its good flavor and wok-hei, especially when eaten fresh. The restaurant also offers dishes like Kung Pao Chicken, Garlic Chicken, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. Their stir-fries, including chow mein and fried rice, are cooked with wok-tossed technique and have a tasty flavor. The staff, including Michelle, are friendly and attentive, providing full table service. The interior has a super old-school feel, but the food is high quality, not greasy or loaded with sugar, and reasonably priced. The iced tea is also a highlight. Customers mention that there are no funky food odors or weird disinfectant smells, making it a great place to eat. Many visitors appreciate the consistency and good portions, often returning multiple days during their stay.
