Athenian Deli and Cafe Reviews
Great lunch spot! Oakland has lost so many Greek restaurants lately I was happy to find this spot. Open only weekdays for lunch the menu is solid but not overwhelming. Lamb/ beef gyro was tasty as was the side dish-we tried the fries and the salad.. Service was excellent and food was cooked fresh and quickly! Dining area has nice light and good amount of space. We will definitely be back!
Great food, price, and portion! The tzatziki sauce… yummmm
falafel wrap was amazing. so crispy but soft on the inside. great seasoning. service was awesome lady working was super sweet and ran out the store to pay for someone’s meter when parking enforcement came. pretty reasonable prices, will definitely return

Athenian Deli and Cafe is a charming and delicious spot, an unpretentious yet stylish restaurant in Oakland. It serves fresh Greek and Lebanese street food as good as any found in Athens or Beirut. The menu offers bright and fresh flavors, with an emphasis on a brighter flavor profile where lemon and cucumber pop. Many find it the best compared to other Middle Eastern restaurants.
The food is amazing and absolutely delicious. The falafel is frequently highlighted as the best, being crispy but soft on the inside, yeasty and soft, fresh, and slightly spicy. The falafel wrap is amazing. Other excellent items include the babaghanoush, described as smooth, redolent of charred eggplant, and the best ever tasted. The vegetarian plate is excellent, featuring falafel, tahini, babaghanoush, hummus, Greek salad, beet salad, and other small salads. The veggies are very fresh and refreshing. For coffee, it offers the best espresso in Uptown and a delicious orange blossom latte.
The small cafe is spotless and has incredible, beautiful vibes. Service is awesome, friendly, and super sweet. Prices are pretty reasonable, though some coffee is noted as more expensive. It is well worth a trip and is a hidden gem well worth supporting.
