“Amazing spot! The menu was very clear about dietary restrictions, and the fact that it’s an entirely gluten free establishment made me feel very safe in ordering. Portions for the bowls were fantastic (yay leftovers for lunch the next day!), and shout out to the many dressing/sauce options available. Finding gluten free teriyaki sauce AND vegan ranch to dip their delicious cauliflower wings? A major win!
Only caveat to note is the cookie dough potion is quite small for the price, but I do love to support Sweet Loren’s when I can.
Overall, so happy to have found this spot, and will definitely be ordering from here when I’m visiting Oakland again!

“I'm really glad I tried this local place. I had the teriyaki grilled chicken, and the shrimp fried rice, and both were excellent. The chicken had more grilled color on it, and was less fatty than the Panda Express version. The portions were very generous. Probably the best fast-food chinese food I've had in a loooong time :)“

“I was jonesing for a plate lunch and this did really fit the bill. The pretty enormous amount of kalua pork had just the right amount of salt, and was smoky. There was not too much cabbage, which was a nice change from places that mix in a lot of cabbage to lower costs. I was actually wanting a bit more cabbage. The steamed veg was about 2 bites of broccoli.

I also ordered the malasadas and, while they aren't Leonard's quality, definitely scratched that itch. They were put in the box hot and the clerk wisely punched a good sized hole in it to let the steam out. They're about the size of lime and decently fluffy inside, a bit of crispness outside, cooked the right amount.

“Chicken katsu is Da Kind bra! I got their "Aloha BBQ combo" to go and she was nice enough to let me switch out the barbecue chicken for the katsu chicken and I'm so glad she did. So ono! And you get a Big heavy plate of food for your money!
Both the BBQ Beef and Kalbi short ribs tasted great but they were both a little bit fatty and just a little chewy, compared to when I used to get the same dishes at L&L (The standard of Hawaiian barbecue restaurants) back on Maui, where I lived for many years. I don't mind that because the flavor was delicious but maybe they just need to marinate them more or trim the fat off just a bit.
The most important thing I want everyone to know is that the katsu chicken was done to perfection! Perfectly cooked, still moist and with a delicious katsu sauce for dipping!
They also let me get a bit of extra rice instead of their two choices of steamed vegetables, that did not sound very appetizing. They really need to soak and steam all there vegetables in only ALOHA brand soy sauce if they want the correct Hawaiian flavored vegetables.
Their macaroni salad was ok / good but similar to what you might make it home.
I think they should go online and read about the secrets of Hawaiian style / L&L's macaroni salad.
"While the pasta is still hot, pour 2–3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar over it.
Toss the macaroni and vinegar together so that the vinegar coats all the pasta and season the pasta by adding salt to the water while cooking it.
Rinse the very finely diced onions in cold water to remove bitterness.
Add 6-7 tablespoons of milk to moisten the pasta.
Toss the pasta with the dressing while it's still warm so it absorbs the flavors.
Let the macaroni salad rest in the fridge for a few hours."
Etc.,etc., there's lots of great Hawaiian style macaroni salad recipes online.

And if they don't want to bother cutting up the finely diced onions they could always use onion powder or some other seasoning powder because it's quick and easy.
Because although their macaroni salad wasn't bad it didn't have enough extra special flavor and needed something like onion powder, more salt or a bit of milk to make it their own secret recipe extra delicious / better than home made, so that their customers crave it as much as they crave the meat and it keeps them coming back.

I know I'll be coming back for their delicious chicken katsu and I do hope they add some more flavorings to their macaroni salad that makes it more Hawaiian style.

I gave their service the highest marks because she allowed me to do one substitution on my combo meal and was very friendly, professional and polite.

I deducted points for the atmosphere because it didn't really look that welcoming to take a seat and eat your meals there. I was getting it to go so it didn't matter to me but their interior could use some work make it more welcoming to sit down. Maybe they're just trying to get everyone to get it to go but that doesn't work for everybody.
Parking in that area is terrible and you either have to circle to you find a spot or park a far distance away. If they have some solution for that they should reply so other people don't have to illegally park to get a great Hawaiian style meal.
I also found out that they care about what their customers think and that's worth some extra stars any day of the week!“

“Good selection of vegetarian, vegan, and standard ramen dishes. I enjoyed the Timmy Tan Tan ramen - a little bit of spice, fresh crisp from the greens, and nice depth in the broth! I usually only have half a bowl and save the rest for leftovers but I was still a bit hungry halfway through and ended up eating the entire thing.

Service is very quick with orders and refills. Very relaxed, casual atmosphere good for catching up with friends.

Unfortunately they are now very low/out of eggs due to the current egg stock issues. It does leave the ramen feeling a little naked.

“I ventured the far 15 minute walk from my office to try this place out since it has such high ratings, and honestly wasn’t let down. this place has very fresh and flavorful fish. I usually go to the Benito Poke food truck, but I really like that this establishment is traditional in being able to customize your own bowl. During the lunch rush it was a little overwhelming in the small space and I felt a pressure to move faster since everyone was trying to get lunch, but i needed some time to read all the toppings since it my first time there. The staff was nice to not push me to go faster. I do wish they had a bit more drink selection but overall, the food was delicious and I will be back!“

“Our visit to this Hawaiian restaurant was a fantastic experience! The service was impeccable; the staff was friendly and eager to make our dining experience special. We enjoyed the spam musubi as an appetizer, followed by the BBQ ribs and grilled mahi-mahi. Every dish was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The ambiance was very inviting, with a beautiful Hawaiian-inspired design and tropical plants. The soft lighting and relaxed atmosphere made for a perfect evening. “I recently had the Lau Lau…it was delicious. I need another one. I’ve been coming here for about six months now. I was a bit apprehensive due to the few complaints, so when I initially went I went in person. It’s a grease spoon hole in the wall and I love it. The Chinese food is good too. Always tastes fresh. Ordered my girls fries from here too. I almost ate them all, like y’all gotta share lol. Anyways, I gave a 5 stars. That’s rare for me. Staff is serious and nice. “Really solidly good Hawaiian food. I had family visiting from France who wanted to try Hawaiian food and they loved it! Especially high praise coming from Parisians used to amazing restaurants. “Ordered a tray of Katsu musubi for a party. At first my order time was too early but they gracefully accommodated me. Then when I picked up the order, because they didn’t want to waste the edges they had cut off the chicken katsu, she saved them for me and gave them to me (so tasty!!). 10/10 would come here again for that alone.But the real gem is the food. Far lest salty than that other place across the street (the chain that doesn’t even offer loco moco!!). Got mini dinner pack the night I ordered the musubi and the food is generally better than others in the area.Support a local business and come here instead of that chain. Less expensive and better food. You wont be sorry!!!“

“We dined at trader vic's on Thanksgiving and had a great time. The spread was delicious with seafood options ( clams, crabs etc). The drinks were good too. It was a tad expensive but then it was a Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving day!!

“This is the definition of a hole-in-the-wall place. The decor is bare bones, the place is old, but what they lack in atmosphere, they more than make up for in deliciousness.

I've been here a couple times and the food is consistently good. Always made fresh and pretty quick.
