“Filippi’s Pizza Grotto is such a classic! There’s something special about visiting a family-owned restaurant with more than 75 years of history and recipes that have been passed down through generations.

The food is hearty, comforting, and wonderfully old-school Italian. Their pizzas are generously topped with plenty of cheese, and there are lots of classic pasta and Italian favorites to choose from as well. Portions are satisfying and it’s an easy spot to visit with family or a group when everyone wants something a little different.

The service was also incredibly friendly and welcoming throughout our visit, which made the experience even better. It’s easy to understand why Filippi’s has remained a San Diego tradition for so many decades. We had a great experience and would happily return!“

“I was craving some pizza, saw they have single and double slice options with a soda so I stopped in. They made it fresh, only about 7 minute wait or so. DAMN was that pizza good. Not oily, not soggy, just hot and delicious. Couldn't ask for more.“

“I go for the lunch buffet with friends all the time. If you don't ask, they won't put out a new pizza, so keep that in mind. The buffet is reasonable price and they have a few different options for pizza they rotate out. Just ask and they'll make the one you want. They have a salad bar too and some cheese and cinnamon twists. Nice interior. People are nice.“

The only food downside ( which is why I gave Food a 4 out of 5 rating), is their Ceaser salad...it is consistently bland, really watery, and tasteless...such an unpleasant surprise given that ALL of the other salads are so delicious, and ALL of the other food is delicious. “Mama Cella’s Italian restaurant feels like a treasure passed down through generations, offering authentic Italian flavours that truly shine. From the very first bite of the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, I was in love! The dish is creamy and rich in flavor, a perfect example of classic Italian cuisine.

However, I found the meatballs to be a tad salty when eaten on their own. On a positive note, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, eager to share their knowledge about the food and the restaurant. The cleanliness of the establishment was also impressive, which added to the overall dining experience.

Most importantly, the prices are very reasonable! I would definitely recommend Mama Cella’s, and it will be my go-to spot whenever I’m craving Italian food!

“We have ordered catering menu for my birthday here. Subha was accommodating. We specifically requested Chicken 65 be dry without sauce and chili fish with less sauce. And they have honored the request. Veg fried rice, chicken 65 and Rasamalai stood out and every guest mentioned food was really good. Our tummies were good next day without irritations, that we usually experience with restaurant foods. Price seems to be reasonable. Do try their catering..“

“What a great restaurant at the Bernardo Winery. It's the perfect place to meet up with friends for lunch before walking around the cute winery and do some shopping in the boutiques on site.

There are lots of outdoor tables to choose from and most are shaded. It opens at 11am and it was busy soon after. We went on a weekday too.
You can get wines from the tasting room or delicious coffee from Manzanita next door.

You order from the counter and your food will be delivered to your table. Everything we had was delicious though the pizza was a little on the burnt side from the wood fired oven.
