“Truly a hidden gem. The quality is bar none at this price point. The salmon is cooked to perfection, and the tangy basil sauce perfectly balances the flavor. I’ve had the grilled chicken with mushroom sauce twice, and I love the consistency. You can park at the public parking lot behind the restaurant. You're welcome.“

“Had to stop by my favorite Italian grubbin in the heart of Old Town Pasadena all the way from Boise. This was my 3rd time and each time just keeps getting better; definitely the bigger the party, the better. We paid $225 for 4 pasta entrees, 3 appetizers, & 2 glasses of wine for a party of 6. I’ve learned to like my pastas al dente after having them here. The meatballs are banging, the wine-pairing was delightful. Our service was attentive and pleasant; the vibe is always vibrant and homey. Highly recommended.“

“My Daughter & I had dinner here tonight… the food was PHENOMENAL!!! Great Friendly Service too!! What a treat to sit at the bar & watch everything looking delicious coming out of the kitchen window!!! Thank you for such a great Saturday night treat for an out of town Momma visiting her daughter!! “Was super happy with our dinner at Hippo. Every dish was delicious. The brussel sprouts and cauliflower starters had excellent flavors. All the pastas we tried had incredible depth of flavor without being overly heavy or greasy. The hippo rolls and table focaccia were excellent and the chicken thighs were to die for. Only thing that was lackluster was the passion fruit gelato. Fun vibe, lots of seating, and great service!“

“Went here on a Monday for dinner with a friend and omg!! I was blown away by this little hole in the wall. The food was super delicious, and the portions were very generous for the price. I would definitely recommend to anyone, a very authentic Italian restaurant. The entire menu sounded delicious! Our waiter William was very attentive and very friendly and caring. The overall atmosphere is great! I will definitely be back very soon with my family!!“

“The food was great had the Chicken Parmesano, the chicken was tender and the sauce that was on it was delicious and light. Came with mashed potatoes, sautéed carrots, and broccoli. The vegetables were tender but needed more flavor. The mashed potatoes were done well and had a lot of flavor. Dont know if we were there too early but there was only one server, don't get me wrong he was great but he did need help. Overall I would dine here again.“

“Truly a hidden gem. Several levels of dining space combined with the big fireplace gives the restaurant a unique ambiance. The food was superb, incredible pasta. There was a live pianist playing that made the evening even more memorable. As it often happens with places like this, service was impeccable.“

“My wife and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary at Barrio in City Terrace last night, and it was nothing short of amazing! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, setting the perfect mood for a special evening.
The food was absolutely incredible—each dish was crafted with care, full of rich flavors, and beautifully presented. Every bite was a delight, and you could truly taste the passion behind the cooking.
The service was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and made us feel like valued guests. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience.

For the main dishes we had the vongole, chicken Parmigiano, kids' spaghetti and meatballs and kids' chicken fettuccine Alfredo. For dessert we had the cheesecake. Everything was so delicious! “Everything about our experience was great! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The menu offered a nice selection of choices. We ordered the lunch special and it was delicious. Beautiful presentation, and in my opinion, we were served a lovely amount of food for a “special.” The service was very good. We do not live in the area but I would definitely make the field trip to eat here again…and bring my friends!“

“I haven’t been here but as I was drinking a very nice bottle of Italian wine I read the label to find out more. I saw that it was imported by D’Aquino. I looked them up online, always eager to find a good import company dealing with Italy. I wondered why they have such a low review score. As a business owner who has been robbed and vandalized multiple times - even held up at gun point to be robbed - I stand behind them 100% for being vigilant. I also look forward to visiting their place of business next time I am out that way . Thanks to Andrea the local guide for doing what you do. On our recent trip to Italy we found one of our favorite restaurants by taking the recommendation from a local guide. A votre sante!“

“Came into this Olive Garden and was seated very quickly even though it was busy. It did take away to get our order taken, I don't think we were assigned a waiter, but then the lovely manager (I think) came and helped us. We got our food quickly and the service was amazing. I tried the new Calabrian Steak & Shrimp Bucatini and it was delicious. Would definitely order it again.“
