We enjoyed the food. Lunch special is a decent deal with a filling portion size. We ordered the Tofu and Black Mushroom a la carte and it was huge, enough for two and a half meals. Salt and Pepper Eggplant appetizer size was also substantial, tasty but somewhat on the salty side.

“I love this place! We came to satisfy the serious food preferences my family has and were so pleased with the food. While there is a sign in waitlist, the wait was maybe 10 min. The food was all so delicious. We ordered the juicy pan fried buns, pork XLB, cucumber salad, pork and cabbage dumplings, and braised beef soup noodles. Service was quick and friendly. Price point was good.
I can’t wait to go back and/or order takeout.

“I am so glad they opened this sandwich spot! I ordered 5 items for takeout and it came out to only $34. I got 2 veggie sandwiches on Dutch crunch. Best sandwiches in San Mateo County. I also tried their 2 dessert options. They have the bst carrot cake I have ever had! Their chocolate chip cookie tasted very rich. I had their veggie soup which was fresh and delicious. This place is my new go to spot. The location is a little awkward, but the inside is organized and clean. It only took 10 minutes to make my order. Definitely a satisfied customer!!!“

“Thank goodness for this place! I got a large Peruvian chicken and rice soup for lunch and it was just what I needed. I even came back for more soup (chicken noodle) for dinner. Nourishing, tasty and reasonably priced. I also enjoyed their freshly squeezed orange juice and an Americano. Thank you Ladle & Leaf for making my day at the airport tolerable!“

“I really love coming to this place because it has a simple menu that’s perfectly executed. I’ve tried maybe 5 variations of their empanadas and each one came out super flavorful and fresh. The bread they use has a homemade authentic flavor and their spice isn’t actually too spicy. The empanadas do take ~5 minutes to warm up, but the atmosphere of the cafe feels very cozy and it’s a great place to read or relax. Sometimes they play soccer matches on the big screen and it almost gives a neighborhood bar feel. Really recommend!“

“Great Hong Kong style breakfast, we enjoyed our breakfast choice of HK milk tea plus noodles plus mini sandwiches. The fried donut, the spicy noodles are very nicely done too. We recommend it to diners who would like to experience the Hong Kong style breakfast and ambience.“

It's a relatively unknown little place, but by far my favorite in San Mateo. I recommend anything on their menu, but I personally LOVE their chow mein and sizzling rice soup.“
