“Our group was vegetarians and vegans and everyone was very happy. I've had banh mi without the mayo before, but having a vegan aioli made it so much better. The service was very friendly and efficient. The seating is outside in a lovely courtyard, but depending on the time of day could be shady/ chilly, or sunny. You stand in a line to enter and order at a counter.“

“First time visiting, and I came with a friend around 7 PM on a Tuesday. Parking in the area was a bit uncomfortable due to the large number of homeless individuals nearby, and there was a strong odor on the street while walking in, which immediately took away from the experience. Unfortunately, with the restaurant keeping many of the windows open, those smells carried inside as well, making it hard to fully relax and enjoy a meal.

The restaurant itself was also very cold, so we had to move around to find seating away from the open windows. That said, once we settled in, the food itself was actually good. I ordered the black bean burger, and my friend ordered a “naked” cheeseburger wrapped in lettuce. We both enjoyed our meals.

The fries are ordered separately, so both got a large order to share. The portion size was generous—almost extra-large—and the price was very reasonable. We ordered the garlic fries with truffle Parmesan cheese shredded topping, and they were definitely a highlight.

Overall, the food and value were solid, and I would recommend it to first-time guests who want to try it out. Personally, due to the atmosphere and overall comfort of the location, I don’t think I’ll be returning—but I’m glad I gave it a chance.“

“We are regular customers of South Beach. We had dinner last night (Jan 21st) around 6 pm. Service and table were fine. I chose the Voodoo shrimp/sausage dish off the special menu. It was sub standard and had little shrimp or sausage. Watery and really not remarkable. First time we ever had a bad meal. Usually anything you pick is magnificent. Spent 240.00 for a below average meal. Just thought you should know. Thank you.“

“What a surprise for just picking something off the map! Beautiful view, but the food was SO SO good, and a great price. We had the Baja shrimp taco- generously sized and perfectly dressed. The pastrami burger- oh my…the bun was perfect, the beef and pastrami delicious, and the ONIONS WERE OUT OF THIS WORLD(wish I could do mine this way. Even the grilled cheese was top notch, done with crispy cheese inside and great quality bread. Lastly, we had the potato pirogies which were crisp and toasty on the outside and creamy inside and the hopping sauce we could DRINK. The employees were very nice and service was swift. Probably the best, quick meal we have had traveling in 2700 miles. Much appreciated!“

“I stepped in here looking for a friend, and the place was packed. It was loud and there was a happy vibe. Lots of folks having a good time and more people showing up as I left. I've never been here before, but the crowd suggests they're doing something well.“

“If you are looking for a drink/snack right on the beach in PB then this is the place for you. First off, they have excellent breakfast, so go there for that if you are hungry and it's before noon. Secondly, if it is after noon, the menu options are good. The parking is limited, but there is an underground public-pay lot right below this place. The only downside is that all the drinks are served in plastic disposable cups so it's not the best for the environment, but they have recycle bins for the cups/bottles at least. I can't get over how great the view from the patio at this place is and so if you're looking for a casual place to grab a drink and sit outside and enjoy the beach, definitely come here!“

You want a brave patron to bust out their kazoo for a musical break down in a song their singing? You want some SCRUMPTIOUS wings with a side of random conversations about philosophy? You want an LGTBQ friendly neighborhood bar to sing and drink your worries away? Stop on by! Karaoke starts at 7pm every night and make sure to get their early cuz the queue fills up quick! Not to mention their open-ceiling back patio with both a smoking and non-smoking section, exceptional staff and security (always tip your bartenders!), and great karaoke stage. “We only recently learned about Sal's Cantina and we were eager to try the food. The space is great (which is shared with Rosemary & Thyme in the morning), especially the very comfortable outdoor garden patio. Sal was very friendly and provided great, attentive service. And the food was delicious! I ordered a birria taco, a pollo asado taco, with beans and rice. My friend had a birria enchilada (not on the menu, but Sal fixed it up for us). All of the food was fresh and great quality. We also were greeted with complimentary chips and salsa, which was a great starter with our passionfruit margaritas. One high note, all of the food was lightly salted, which is something I very much appreciated. It's easy to add salt if you want more, but too many restaurants over-salt, and you can't do anything to lessen that after the fact. We will definitely be back!

Parking: Sal's doesn't have any dedicated parking. You can choose from metered parking along University Ave, or look for free street parking along the side streets. Pretty much the same for many Hillcrest restaurants.“

“the food is always excellent very well priced inconsistent Even the salad just smells fresh even with no dressing on it. Lots of variety. Even their iced tea is freshly brewed there. Full bar which I don't drink much but looks like it's got everything anybody ever want. Fun to watch the airplanes with Jets take off your right on the runway this place has been here for years and years and years not sure how long but it's kind of a San Diego landmark. The hostess wasters has been there for a long time, always willing to assist you in your little quirky special request. I should remember her name but I'm so bad at that. You cannot go on eating here bon appetit. PSI voice type and I do not at it“

“Just after Christmas, we were in town for the new year and the Seahawks had a football game against the 49ers so we went to our place bar and Grill and had a fantastic time. The people were great. The food was great. The owners were great. I highly highly recommend we have been to numerous Seahawks bars Across the United States and by far this one was the best.“

“We spent the day at the zoo and wanted a place to sit, relax and enjoy a beer. They have a great selection to choose from. They also provided great service. We got to sit by a window, watch the sky darken with night, and watch some guy on the beach try to light off some fireworks (little success).

Overall it was a great place to unwind after a long day at the zoo.“

“We stumbled upon the Smoking Gun restaurant on a trip taken in September of 2024. The atmosphere was fun with a 1970/80’s decor and menus presented in Pee Cee folders. We had a breakfast sandwich and potato cake addition (might be only available for brunch on the weekends) that was so good! We flew into San Diego February 2026 and the first thing we thought of was to find this restaurant again to have the fantastic breakfast sandwiches! I hope they keep keep these on their menu. We will be back!“

“The Shamrock drink I had for St. Patrick's day was DELICIOUS!!!! My kids don't eat meat off the bone; however, my son devoured the bone-in wings. The XL pretzel was my favorite. Shrimp cocktail was also good, as well as the Carne Asade taco.“
