“Excellent quality healthy and authentic Japanese food at affordable prices. Service is fast (usually 10-15 minutes wait, but sometimes only 5!) And the place is very clean.

Very good spot for a date, or lunch/dinner with your parents. Also a great everyday lunch spot. I try to eat here once a week at least - when I need a healthy meal Asian style.

My favorite is the miso soup and side salad, add a rice and it's under $10. There are many food options in the $10-15 range for a full meal. My favorite soup is the vegetable udon noodle soup. I also like that they have soda pop available with no artificial sweeteners or high fructose corn syrup, so I can enjoy a soda sometimes without feeling too guilty about it.

The sushi is also great, and the teriyaki dishes yummy.

“Hands down my favorite sushi restaurant, super fortunate to live nearby. I order the “Shelby Roll” frequently (best Shelby I’ve experienced, always super fresh). Titanic is fantastic, also fresh with a little crunch. Tonight I tried the “Sushi Pizza” and I’m in 7th heaven. Great for me by myself and easy to share. “Probably the best if not one of the better all you can eat asian hot pot style place for miles, we drove 35 minutes to get here. Usually a smallish wait to get seated. Seating for small and large groups. Great base soup options, especially spicy miso. Great meats and sides to order, and great sauce options for dipping or added flavors. Also Great non-meat ingredient options (except fish ball options, just one there) where it fell to 4 stars was service. Now we know it was a busy weekday after new years, but long waits, and inattentive servers, wrong things brought. To be fair things like more base soup arrived quickly, everything else was slow and often not what we asked for. Here is the important question, would we drive that far again to this place? 100% yes, next time we all get a chance to go on a week day to their excellent lunch menu special, yes we will. This was our 3rd trip here. All the other hot pot aspects where totally worth it and we hope for better service and not worn out staff making excuses. I don't want to dissuade anyone from going, just know it may be 5 stars, or at worst 4 stars, but the food is worth it either way. Dinner and weekend is also excellent dining for hot pot, just a little more expensive, but includes more and often better ingredient, appetizers and meat options. Also this place has a definite Korean flavor spin, but still has the asian classics too. So when hungry, and love soups and food and spicy options, then this is a great place in this area. Thanks.“

“Hakashi is truly one of the best sushi restaurants in the East Bay. The sushi is always fresh and delicious, and they add their own creative twist with unique flavors and presentation. Their drinks also have a personalized touch, definitely try the tamarind and hibiscus mocktail. For sushi rolls, the 49er and the Hakashi roll are must-tries, with the Hakashi roll being my personal favorite.“

“It’s so nice that there’s an actual Japanese-owned ramen shop in this part of inland Contra Costa County. Usually, your average suburban ramen shop (like the Ramen 101 chains) is owned by Chinese or Koreans. They’re not bad per se but the ramen they serve is not Japanese.

I knew this place was authentic because of their noodles: their tonkotsu ramen has the thin, firm white noodle normally seen in Hakata-style bowls, whereas the Yuzu Shoyu comes with the classic, wavy egg noodles. It’s a nice touch that shows they are serious about serving good ramen.

Chashu is delicious….its slightly smokey from being torched but it also falls apart in your mouth. It’s also thicker than your average chashu slice.

Tonkotsu broth is creamy and rich, without being too salty. It’s also balanced with the addition of pickled ginger.

The Yuzu-shoyu on the other hand, is more savory and tart, with a good amount of spice from sansho (Japanese Sichuan pepper).

Service was good and straightforward. I’d come back again when I’m craving real ramen but don’t want to cross the tunnel.“
