“This is a place you need to go and sit down and enjoy your meal. I just love the look and feel of the restaurant. Bright, lovely wall art that you must take a second to notice, cherry blossom tree at one end and a mountain scape on the opposite wall across the restaurant. The staff was warm and welcoming and very attentive. The sushi was very good and nicely prepared. Want to go back to try sashimi plate.Grilled edamame was very good, with a nice little bit a char. Dragon Roll was very good also. Yuzu sake was divine, my favorite!!It was a lovely dining experience. Literally, all boxes checked for us. We will definitely be returning.“
“Came here in search of vegetarian sushi and was super impressed. Not a sushi person, but dining here changed my mind about sushi. We tried Green Machine & Little Island - both amazing. The Matcha Pannacotta was okayish. Also tried the cauliflower but the sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking.Look forward to coming back here.“
“I love sushi burritos and the ones here are fresh and well-wrapped. They have edible paper around it so things don't get too out of hand.I recommend going for the double wrap, which is basically a longer wrap cut in half. It is more worth it imo. My favorites are the rainbow wrap and the hamachi ceviche wrap.If you want something hot, the scallop bake is the way to go. You order at the counter and there is plenty of indoor seating. The service is good too. Once they forgot to put hamachi in the wrap I ordered and made a whole new one for me instead of trying to do something with the original one.“
“Came back as its been awhile. Still consistent whether bento box or sushi. My fav bento is chicken teriyaki, tempura and CA roll. That was satisfying. The sushi roll was good. Just be ready to be patient as they are short staffed. Sushi chefs busy as the two older ladies are hosting, taking orders, etc. Service is pretty much order as soon as they come as one other woman she just walked by when we arrived. And the other ladies are hustling.“
“Just read reviews for Genji when daughter headed out the door to Whole Foods for some evening shopping. She shops there regularly but had never mentioned Genji. I asked her to pick out some sushi to buy if they had any left. She came home with grilled salmon avocado roll, double shrimp bar be que roll and a roll in a green wrapper with shrimp on top that looked teriffic. It found itself in my granddaughter's hands and quickly vanished before the rest of us could try it. Since it was late, daughter decided to only buy rolls with cooked fish. All were pretty good. Attractive and tasty. Prices for the three were less than restaurants charge. My plan is to shop earlier in the day and order food. The platters look nice on their web site and prices sure are reasonable. I don't get out much these days, but I believe some of the delivery services work with Genji. Am looking forward to trying more of their very large selection of Japanese food!!!!“
“My first time here for lunch. A two-item combo plate is reasonably priced. I ordered sashimi with teriyaki salmon. The three slices of sashimi were salmon, tuna and yellowtail. Yellowtail had a dallop of ground ginger/garlic which greatly enhanced the taste. I found it amazing that the chef paid attention to such small portion of a lunch. My friend who ordered Hamachi Kama said the portion was the largest she ever seen in the area. It was delicious, too.“
“A little hidden gem of a Japanese restaurant tucked in a strip mall featuring Safeway. The employees are super kind and attentive. The food was surprisingly tasty and pretty. The edamame were a bit over cooked and under salted and the salad did not have enough dressing but the flavors of the teriyaki salmon and crab rolls made up for it. Great!“
“Ordered from them before and really liked it, especially since they have sushi trays and they are affordable. But they were closed last time despite being open on DoorDash - I only found out after I drove there and saw they were closed. Will go again though if they're “
“First time trying this location BUT it felt very familiar since the interior was similar to the Oakland location. The nigiri combo also started at $25 for 7 pieces with the options to pick more expensive fish. Scallops and toro are available for no additional cost here as well. Honestly, a great addition to the area. Highly recommend their kurodai, aka black snapper, because they sear it very well.“
“One of the best sushi places in the bay! You'd never guess there'd be an omakase restaurant like this in this shopping center, but they're punching way above their weight class. The service is incredible, and the food is delicious! I feel like the texture of the sushi really sets it apart from even other higher end sushi restaurants. This place is a hidden gem!“
“Everything here was great! Ordered baked sushi and some steak sushi for happy hour. My friend ordered chirashi and I can tell you: I regret not ordering the same thing because it looks SO GOOD T_T if I were to go there again next time, I'll surely order chirashi. It was a small restaurant, but sweet and nicely arranged. It was loud though, so be ready to speak loudly! The service was pretty quick for what they are: it's crowded so takes some time to order and get our food, but all in all it's worth to have another visit.“
“Came here for the first time with my husband and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish! It was very fresh and sashimi portions were large and nigiri well made. The restaurant is really small and seems family owned and the chef and staff are all very nice and welcoming. Food was definitely authentic Japanese and the sushi/sashimi is worth the quality you are getting. I will definitely be back to try other items on their menu. Don't pass on this small hidden gem and grab some fresh sashimi/nigiri“
“It’s a contemporary Japanese restaurant with an extensive menu. Decor is bright and cheery. Bonus points for big screens showing a winning Warriors game on the night we dined there! ? Personally I had the cheesy katsu on a sizzling hot plate which was quite a sight and tastes pretty good. My party had sushi and ramen which are ok but the broth is not complex flavor-wise. The draft beer in frosted mugs is refreshing and goes very well with the katsu. Service is friendly and lots of drink options from sake to soju to ramunes. Definitely something for everyone.Vegetarian options: There are options even for plant-based diets.Parking: Saw a couple of pay-per-use EV charging spots in the parking lot too. Probably J1772s.Kid-friendliness: Good menu options for kids and they provide little chopstick training widgets for a fun experience“
“YOU HAVE TO COME VISIT IF YOU ARE A PICKY SUSHI EATER. It's a simple spot that looks like it's family owned, very unassuming but has the best sushi I had in the Bay Area for a while. Very fresh fish, reasonably priced, service is excellent. It's simply outstanding, please give them a try and you won't be disappointed! The sushi literally melts in your month IM NOT LYING TO YOU go“
“I came here for my birthday, and Jenny (bartender/server) was amazing. It was our first time there, and she was very patient and friendly, explaining the menu to us. The food was fantastic, and the shrimp were on point. Manager Gabriel is also very courteous and made sure we were all happy with our food. Came ba k again and tasted the salmon chowder, and that was AMAZING.... I LOVED IT.....Great food and atmosphere, keep up the great work.“
“I called and ordered a roll to go-the Storm roll. It was delicious, and the finest quality and freshness! The owners were there, and the place looks extremely cute inside and also has outside seating. I had never been here before, but will be coming back soon. Very good sushi!“
“I thought it was seaweed sushi, but it was literally a piece of pocket sushi, like a rice ball. Although it was less than the average American food, it was full and tasty. The amount was just right for me.It felt a bit expensive for the price, but it was a light and satisfying meal.“
“I liked the white modern interior design. I enjoyed the glass noodle appetizer. I got the salmon jaw really enjoyed it. The fish was juicy. Someone in my group got the omakase and they said that the rice was a little dry. Everyone else who got tendons really enjoyed them. I liked how we had a water pitcher and a ?barley? tea pitcher at the table so that we could serve ourselves. My party also liked how there were pickled vegetables dishes at the table that we could help ourselves to.“
“Food and service were above expectations! The menu has plenty of options and our group ordered almost everything lol.. Love this place.! Everyone was so nice and said goodbye on our way out as if we were family. I will most definitely be coming back.!“
“Actually delicious. We’ve had a lot of sushi in the east bay and this was easily the best takeout - fish was fresh, cuts were generous, and seasoning was interesting and delicious. A little expensive for normal sushi takeout in my opinion but a nice monthly treat! We’ll be back to dine in!Dietary restrictions: Gluten, dairy, egg free“
“Believe it or not, my boyfriend didn't like seafood, sushi, never heard of poke growing up. However, he craves this place at least twice a month and I do too! They're ingredients are pretty high quality and they seem to always have heavy hands when scooping the fish you chose so that's a huge bonus! We love this place and if you're a sushi or poke lover, you gotta try it! It's weird to find a hidden gem like this in a mall but hey I'll go drive to the mall just for this food!“
“I was craving sushi so I came to naked fish. I ordered two rolls, a philadelphia roll (you know a familiar favorite, it was excellent) and a Jackson roll (super duper delicious). They were both so good and fresh! I had to order a third which was the iron Man roll. Excellent excellent excellent. Service is spectacular. Super nice people, super chill atmosphere. Nice contemporary art. feels like a homie place. I will be back soon to try out the kitchen foods!“
“I've been coming here for at least 25 years. The staff knows me and my family. The sushi is always fresh and not too much rice, which fills you up, so you can order more rolls! They have all the standard rolls and will customize them if you don't like certain fish. I like the sashimi combination, rose roll, black and white roll, and rainbow roll. They give you some cucumber and crab salad at the beginning of your meal for free. They have a few flavors of Mochi for dessert. They serve very quickly. It may take an hour or less most times we go.“
“Our party of 19 ate here the night after Christmas. Yo's on Hartz is such a nice and intimate place to eat. The manager, Evelyn, made sure our large party was well taken care of and gave excellent meal recommendations. Everyone enjoyed their food and cocktails. We look forward to dining here again!“
“Over the years (30 +) the menu has slightly slightly. There are no longer space shuttle dining plates for the kids. But the food has been consistently good. Enjoy this quiet Japanese restaurant.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible, kid friendly, and easy parking.“
“Honestly, the food here is amazing! I've ordered multiple things from the menu and yet I have not been disappointed. My favorite rolls so far are the Kibo, Hartz, Salmon Skin hand roll and Isabel!! Isabel, Hartz & Salmon skin hand-roll are my top 3 favorites. For the appetizer, I really enjoy the garlic edamame!! If you're a garlic girl like I am, you should definitely give it a try. The gyozas and mixed tempura are a hit as well!! For rice plates, I really enjoy the chicken teriyaki. I usually never order chicken teriyaki at restaurants but oh man this one is soooo good. I really like the salad and pickled vegetables that come with it.“
“Take out sushi - it’s a great addition to the area! Owner Wayne is so so kind. He always remembers my husband and I went we pick up, even separately. He always asks how our son is and gives us yummy sodas. We haven’t had a bad roll! My favorite is the deluxe spicy tuna, it’s seared and has amazing flavor. Sashimi is always fresh and generous. Soup and salad are included (maybe only with sashimi?). Definitely give it a try!“
“Located in the Blackhawk shopping center, next to the Safeway. This is an outstanding late night Japanese restaurant, specializing in high quality sushi rolls. I highly recommend their Deluxe hand roll: Uni, otoro, shiso leaf, ikura. They also feature House special rolls, and we tried their CB roll: salmon avocado, and fresh maguro tuna! Loved their high quality seafood and warm sushi rice. Sushi nigiri portions were large, generous cuts. I loved their otoro, hamachi, and ama ebi. Extremely fresh and delicious!“
“I don't have high expectations when it comes to non Japanese owned sushi places so this place was a nice surprise. Ordered agedashi tofu, vegetable tempura, and salmon teriyaki Bento which was very good! The sushi was standard, I'd return for the bentos for sure. I ordered through Grubhub so I'm not sure about the restaurant itself but the food is good!“
“This place is not kid friendly. I went on a Saturday night took my children. Went before food was pretty good. I saw a table available, the lady looked at us and said 2 hour wait. When I saw a table available. I told her we can take the table I see that is available. She didn't know english. She went to go get another lady. She knew more English, and then said it was a 30-minute wait. I said, "What about that table I see?" She said it was for a reservation and pointed to a whole different table. I obviously saw that when I walked in. They discriminate against children. Like most places in the bay area. SMH“
“I just discovered this amazing place and I am in love with it. The food is delicious and satisfying. The restaurant itself is amazing with lots of indoor and outdoor seating, a full cocktail bar, and a very large sushi bar. Please go check it out cuz it is cool and a great find in Castro valley, California.“
“The goal was to go get some Thai food, but we stumbled upon this Sushi spot. before I go in, I had to look up the reviews and the reviews were 4.5 so I went in for a try. Upon entry I was immediately greeted by the entire staff everyone speaks and acknowledges you upon entry and departure. So of course, I always have to try something different, so I found something different which was grilled edamame I don't know how to explain this, but it was fabulous & flavorful I had to order another one. I did order some Sushi which was fresh and tasty as well. I definitely recommend this establishment if you're in the area looking for Sushi. There are a lot of big box restaurants in the area, but nothing beats the mom & pops small establishment, AWESOME.“
“Took Family to Sozo for Dinner during our annual Christmas Lights Night. With a party of 10, ran our waitress a lil Looney but she hung in with a semi-decent attitude.Miso Soup and Apps (Gyoza & Tempura) were EXCELLENT. My special Spicy Tuna roll was very tasty, the Spicy Hamachi handroll was EVEN BETTER.Sadly my wifes scallop topped roll came with some weird mayo sauce that made it nearly inedible -- but that was the only notch in an otherwise solid sushi dinner!DEFINITELY RECOMMEND SOZO!“
“This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Pleasanton. I like to eat here for lunch, it is not crowded and has a good selection of fresh fish. I always go for some nigiri, I love the Uni w/ Quail Egg, Aji, Kanpachi, Tamago, and Maguro. The Red Mountain Roll is my favorite, I also like the Four Seasons and Salmon Lover. I would highly recommend trying this place if you are in the area. The staff here is great and very friendly.“
“Excellent restaurant to eat you will enjoy It! I have tried the sushi here before you will love to try It, great service, great cozy atmosphere and overall a perfect place to eat. I ordered the beef noodle soup the other day It was yummy. Just be careful It's a little hot but good flavor and about 16$ range.“
“We have been a return customer to PC for years now. It's so enjoyable. We always order the fish & chips. The cocktails are superb, especially the Margaritas. They are always so busy on weekends that you must have a reservation or wait in line. One thing we noticed this past Friday evening was the potions have been reduced. The fish were about half the size and the quantity of fries was about half what they used to be. It may be that the restaurant that evening had two huge groups along with a full house and they may have been short on food. We will try again and see if the portions are the same. That could be an issue.“
“Pleasantly surprised! For whatever reason I had never tried Akira before. I'm so glad I finally have. I met up with a couple of friends and we enjoyed drinks and shared a bunch of sushi. There are lots of options on the menu and everything we tried was tasty and super fresh! We were chatting so much that we closed the place down. This might seem random, but I was so impressed by the extensive cleaning they did at the end of the night. This alone will have me frequenting Akira from now on.“
“tasty sushi burrito, interesting concept, no high end ingredients but still pretty good! ran in with my buddy to the commissary kitchen that has a lot of different restaurants as part of the group. Nice guys running the place, fun to talk to, decent semi-healthy lunch to grab and go!“
“We've been going here for nearly 5 years now, and my wife and I love it. It's probably one of the best sushi restaurants in East Bay. We've tried quite a number of items on the menu and have yet to find something we don't like.“
“I’ve been dining several times a month at HaLa for years and certainly find my experiences consistently worth 5 stars! Quality and freshness is my priority, and they never disappoint. What’s really unusual is their wine list. It’s top notch, too. Sure, if it’s really busy, I might have to wait a few minutes to order, but with a fine glass of wine to begin with an appetizer, I’m good! Ken and crew are phenomenal hosts and always make me feel welcomed and comfortable.Vegetarian options: Many! Can’t recommend from the list because it’s too limited. Dozens of items are excellent.Dietary restrictions: It’s sushi et al. No dairy!Parking: Plenty of parking right at the door.Kid-friendliness: If you have noisy, rambunctious kids, no worries. Outside seating, too!Wheelchair accessibility: Parking lot / front door access.“
“Outstanding! Always…… Dave Y. You’re just a Karen. Everything about RJ’s is fantastic. If anyone doesn’t like RJ’s, they have much greater hurdles to deal with and simply can’t find the good in anything. Hats off to the staff, the owner and the regulars.“
“Fat Fish is consistently exactly what I need it to be - great food food at a great value. The owners are friendly, and do their best to make me feel welcome every time. With such a huge menu, I’m amazed at the consistency, but they nail it every time.“
“I love coming here. The food is fantastic; the servers are knowledge, friendly, and helpful for novices of sushi, and the atmosphere gives an air of privacy and intimacy to the meals. While the food does come at a substantially higher cost than fast food, every penny is worth it.“
“I've been coming here for years with my family and the amazing food and friendly staff have consistently been the highlights of our visits here. My go to is the bento box with salmon kama but the rolls, sashimi, and nigiri are also great. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants some high quality sushi but doesn't want anything over expensive.“
“One of my favorite Japanese spots in Hayward. Kinda hidden on a side street.I love that they let me order salmon sashimi in the bento box, and I can have it with salmon teriyaki for even more salmon! Very tasty. They've got a double salmon sushi roll that my 7yo daughter loves, because I've apparently gotten her hooked on eating too much salmon as well haha. My sushi-disliking husband doesn't mind coming here either because they've got a variety of other things for him, like beef teriyaki and udon bowls. The service is pretty minimal, but not unfriendly. The server just tends to disappear and is pretty quiet. They're part of the Together For Hayward program, so if you can snag one of the limited-time deals on those gift certificates, the already low prices here are even better.“
“We love this place! Getting a poke bowl here is our main motivation to go to the premium outlet! It’s a 50 minute drive for us but we make sure to stop and eat there regardless of time of the day. The ingredients are way more fresh than the poke bowls we had in south bay, they have more topping options, miso soup os great, and the price is fair.“
“Honestly some of the best Japanese food I've had in the Bay Area. Everything is fairly priced and portions are large, sushi was very tasty and super diverse menu. Great service and clean place. Nothing to complain about, if you're craving Japanese food in the San Ramon area, this is the spot.“
