“This is a nice Thai BBQ place. We got Phad See-Ew with chicken, Chef's Special Seafood Combo Plate which came with Shrimps, scallops, mussels, squid. Fried shrimp & fried calamari, with a chicken fried rice. Everything was good except I felt the fried calamari and fried shrimp had to much breading on them we ended taking some of the breading off. Overall everything had good flavor, also the prices listed online are not the correct prices in store.“

“I ordered the steak with Java rice. Got the calamari as an appetizer. Everything was delicious. Great service. We waited about 10 minutes to get seated. Parking was easy. We parked right up front. Food portions more than enough. Left very satisfied. Will be back again for sure!!!“

“This is one of the best “fast food” chains offering Hawaiian BBQ on the mainland. There are quite a few in the area, but this is my favorite and is the only one I know that is actually rooted in Hawaii. The Kal Bi, BBQ chicken and Kalua pork plate lunches are my favorite. They also have lau lau, saimin, musubi (SPAM, Portuguese sausage and other variants), loco moco, and other island favorites along with actual Hawaiian canned drinks, which you normally can only find in Hawaii. It’s a little piece of Hawaii right here, conveniently located near the Union City BART station and the major intersection of Decoto Road and Alvarado-Niles Blvd.
Vegetarian options: Not sure what’s you want to go to a BBQ place for vegetarian, but they do have some meatless options. Also Keto style carb free options.
Parking: Huge parking lot and walking distance (just across the street) fro the Union City BART station.“

“Had the brisket sandwhich based on a recommendation. Not bad. Fries and slaw good too. Glass of soda was huge. we'll eat it again, maybe try dinner.“

“The broth is satisfying, flavorful, and has just the right amount of numbing spice. I highly recommend the beef bone broth soup base with either medium or spicy heat. The Szechuan spicy base is good, too!
You can choose from various meats, seafood, veggies, and noodles. Pick whichever ingredients you want as long as it meets the minimum 0.8 lbs (they charge you by weight)“

“This BBQ is among top 3 which I’ve had in CA and WA. I like their eggplants the most. Best one ever! The wine in Chinese traditional container brought me back to the ancient times which is really fun. Only thing is that it is so busy that the server make us feel a bit rush. But their service quality overall is good.
Parking: Sufficient parking in the plaza, even during dinner time.“

“I ordered food for a work luncheon holiday party. I spoke directly with the owner, Tim, and he was very kind and was able to accommodate us at short notice. I ordered about $1500 worth of food but was a little nervous since we had never eaten South Smokin before. Also, I had a couple of last minute changes and it was NO PROBLEM for them.
My nervousness was not needed because everything was wonderful! Tim delivered the food himself, on time, and the food was hot and absolutely delicious! Everyone was happy with it, and there was PLENTY! We had a lot of leftovers for everyone to take home a plate or two.
For reference, we ordered tri-tip (a tiny bit overcooked, but still delicious) chicken (great), ribs (PERFECT!!), mac and cheese, hot potato salad, lumpia, beans, cornbread, and probably a couple of other things I'm forgetting, but everything was yummy.
Thank you Tim for making our holiday party so great! We will definitely order again“
“Chris and his team put out some of the best barbecue I’ve ever tasted follow their page to get updated on where they will be usually at Bay hill Foods in Hayward.👍❤️“

“So as soon as you walk in you're just immediately shoved back into the 1990s Chinese cafeteria style restaurant. The smell, the sound, the everything. It's perfection. It's cheap, and they pile the food on until it's overflowing. I ordered duck over rice with another plate of chow fan and short rib and pork gluten and it came out to less than $20!?!
I don't know how but they're a treasure and I hope they continue to make it. They've been only open for 2 months and did poorly the first few months because they accidentally labelled themselves as a tourist info zone and not a restaurant. Support them.“
