Today, I went to the cafe at around 2 pm. It’s open until 7 pm but all the chairs were up on the tables. When I asked if they were closed I was told they were just washing the floors. Who puts the chairs up and washes the floors 5 hours before closing…so unwelcoming. The coffee was tepid also. I simply don’t understand semi-closing the cafe mid-day.

VanDough French Bakery offers a variety of great and beautiful pastries that are delicious, super fresh, and quite affordable. The pastry case is beautiful. Items include a wonderful creme puff with a lovely buttery Choux, fantastic Lorraine quiche, amazing raspberry tart, and a crisp, buttery version of a cinnamon roll made with puff pastry. The croissants are made traditionally with 55 layers of flakey pastry, and the Napoleon is one of the best. They also make custom cakes and serve a huge, very good breakfast sandwich. The espresso based coffee is great and cheap, with a $2 cup being practically a gift.
The service is very good with great, friendly staff. However, it is wise to be mindful and check custom cake writing before leaving, as there can be mistakes. While most experiences are good, there have been isolated issues, such as finding apple seeds in an apple tart. For the most part, customers have good experiences and find the food to be real quality French pastry with wonderful flavor. This bakery has what it takes to be considered a real European Style Bakery.
