“Excellent!! Crab cake appetizer was the "best I've ever had" according to my son. There were four of us and all were very pleased. I've been twice and looking forward to going back. This restaurant is definitely the place to go when you want to take your time between courses and enjoy the food and people you are with. I like the 20% service charge(tip) added to bill. Keeps paying thoughtless as service is excellent. 5 stars on everything!“

Kid-friendliness: The kids at the table next to us had plenty of choices! They seemed very happy!!“

“I've been coming to this restaurant since I was very young. The food has remained amazing. the cocktails and draft list are great & they give you a generous wine pour! Try to avoid the dining room if you see a lot of families with kids, lots of uncontrollable kids running around as of recently & the staff doesn't do anything. This is a family friendly atmosphere....but not when other diners experiences are being disrupted.“

“We have been enjoying Chow for years and everything we have ever had from them has been delicious but yesterday… Father’s Day, they went above and beyond! They were packed and after waiting for a while for my take out order (understandable for a busy night) they confessed and profusely apologized because in the rush of the busy evening one of my pizzas had been dropped. Without missing a beat they promised my pizzas would be remade and delivered to my house…. Half hour away!!! That is stellar customer service!!! So, amazing food AND wonderful customer service, what more could anyone want?!“

“This is a nice restaurant but we would put it in the great category. We started with tasty cocktails. We shared an endive salad with apples and gorgonzola which was delicious. We then shared a calamari which was good but a little too breaded. The duck entree was a little fatty and had a strange tartine accompaniment but the grilled trout was excellent. Our server was very attentive but the atmosphere was nothing special. We would definitely return but would order differently.“

From the instant we entered, it was as if we were at home (if "home" were always filled with friendly, kind, pleasant people and delicious food) Everyone made us feel comfortable and welcomed. “We love the James Madison House. I just had the best food I have eaten in 2024. Tonight’s Shrimp Scampi over spaghetti squash was the best dinner I have had anywhere in CT. Presentation was 5 star good. The spaghetti squash was actually better than the shrimp. I can’t believe a pub bar can produce such incredible food. And it was gluten free to boot. I had an unbelievable experience there tonight. My wife’s tacos were top shelf as well. Keep it up friends at JMH. Can’t get a better dinner anywhere.“
