“I've been here for two Birthday Celebrations and both were a lot of fun! The staff is great, the food is really good too. Definitely good vibes and awesome to watch live sports on the big screen. I'm a huge football fan it and was nice watching the playoffs last night on their big screen! I would definitely recommend this place.“
“Had dinner there tonight with 2 friends and it was delicious! The staff was amazing and such a cool atmosphere. I had the "spicy salmon sandwich" and it wasn't even a tad bit spicy. Wish it was actually spicy because I crave that but overall was amazing!“
“My friend suggested we go to Double Play Café last night after a concert at the Oakdale Theatre. There was a large crowd for a late on a Saturday night, and we sat at a high top table. We were cold from standing outside for a while at the concert and decided to have some hot drinks. I had a coffee. It was delicious. We then ordered some food. I had the avocado, mozzarella, caprice he salad. I enjoyed it very much. It was fresh and had a very nice balsamic glaze on top. I will definitely go back and try some other items on the menu.“
“Friendly, kind, nice conversations.Ciders were good. To each its own tastes. We bought a 4 pack of the blueberry which was closely related to "passion fruit" cider.Pizza wasn't to my liking. It was very oily. My husband had to try to take it off. And it was doughy. I personally like my pizza crispy. She claimed it was. .. nope. The pig chips and nuts tasted stale. Suppose to be glazed with beer cider. I don't know, in this case maybe I'm the one with the issue. Though ! We did see the ability to order platter of cheese n crackers, but they were out.. Lol.It's okay. It was a Sunday and they seem to be very slow then. So.if you want a quiet place to just sit and enjoy your moment in quiet, then this is good to go. “One of my favorite places to play music, hear music and beg Sarah for a bloody Mary. This is a great dive bar and they are really respectful to musicians. I mean, they held on to our gear long after we were supposed to pick it up and the staff stressed over its safety even more than I did. They show a lot of love to the local music scenes, having live shows every weekend. You will also not hear cover songs there, ever. And that's amazing. Every single song played is original. The bands are a mix of touring and local bands and the sound is really raw. I like that these are not "polished" mainstream, commercial musicians. Turn on Spotify or drop your entire wallet at the Oakdale if you want to hear that. I can go there alone and still feel completely safe, and I'm a petite woman with zero ninja skills, so that's a huge relief for me. The staff is really cool and they make some really tasty drinks. Don't expect posh seating or new anything; it's a dive bar! But one really nice feature of this particular bar is IT'S CLEAN. I know Sarah works incredibly hard to keep the place spotless and germ-free. The bathrooms are even clean! Dennis, Holly and Sarah are awesome and they run a really fun place.“

“I usually love their pizza but I would recommend going there in person for it or double checking it lately. Ordering online doesn't work since its hard to customize pizzas and ots a 10 minute longer wait minimum. We got 2 pizzas for pick up ordered over the phone. 1st the girl was handling more than one phone at a time so not really knowing if we had her full attention. 2nd we ordered the oozy egg no proscute with an extra egg instead. there was no proscute but also no extra egg and the eggs were on only half the pizza. my hubby asked for a side of red pepper flakes they gave him .5oz, kind of stingy. the 2 pizzas came to $38+ and at that price they could at least pay attention and get the order right. Even if they might have been busy, at least do a quality check or read the order back to the customer so it is right.“
“prices on the menu are not the same as what I was charged; when I politely brought this up with my server I was met with hostility and I heard her and who I assumed to be the manager speaking very loudly and poorly about me; the whole situation made me entirely uncomfortable despite being upcharged 8 dollars that I paid my bill and promptly left after being treated poorly about the discrepancy. The food and atmosphere great, but poor service absolutely-- and I work at a restaurant as a server...“
“It's a very cute little spot with a surprisingly welcoming tavern vibe. They are a hearth and fireplace away from peak cozy pub atmosphere. They have a good, and often rotating selection of beers, and the food I have tried has been good, and what I saw on other people's tables looked good. Definitely quality snacking to keep you drinking! The bartender was exceptionally friendly, and while juggling the crowd still made time to chat with us about beers and breweries. I have only been by a few times now, but it always makes me want to visit more often.Parking: Large parking lot in a plaza.“

“I really enjoyed this spot. Almost couldn't find it as there's no real signage outside. It is dark, as others have mentioned. But it definitely helps with the vibe. The little book they have the drink menu in is so cute! The man who took our order was very kind & had no issues making me a great mocktail! Very delicious. We had pulled chicken sliders, which were lemon pepper wet with some type of slaw. A little spicy, which usually is not my thing, but I liked these. It's served with kettle cooked chips. “Came solo looking for a place I could relax and have a beer with locals. Yea this was it! They had musician Steve McGrath playing he was amazing. I got their signature Winchester burger and it was perfect. Chilled here for a couple hours a couple beers and it just feels like home.“

“I've been coming to AJ's for over 20 years. literally every time I have friends from out of town visit me and want to have a drink and some good bar food we go to AJ's. every single one of my out-of-town friends always says this is the best bar food they've ever had in their life. I literally have friends who call me up to come to Meriden just to have food from AJ's. my kids are addicted to the food at AJ's as well . I can honestly say if I ever move out of Connecticut, AJ's is one of the very few restaurants that I would ever truly miss and want to stop by if I come back to Connecticut for a visit. Thanks for hanging in and being so committed to our city. with the type of food and friendliness that AJ's gives they could have been successful any place in Connecticut.“
