“Nice little towny bar. Cash only but they do have an ATM in case you find yourself without cash. They have a couple pool tables in a separate room than the bar which is always nice and roomy. Service is perfect. Bartender is very observant and knows exactly when you need another drink. Drinks are made perfectly too“

“I've been coming to AJ's for over 20 years. literally every time I have friends from out of town visit me and want to have a drink and some good bar food we go to AJ's. every single one of my out-of-town friends always says this is the best bar food they've ever had in their life. I literally have friends who call me up to come to Meriden just to have food from AJ's. my kids are addicted to the food at AJ's as well . I can honestly say if I ever move out of Connecticut, AJ's is one of the very few restaurants that I would ever truly miss and want to stop by if I come back to Connecticut for a visit. Thanks for hanging in and being so committed to our city. with the type of food and friendliness that AJ's gives they could have been successful any place in Connecticut.“

Scotty O Boyles Pub Bar • $$
505-531 N Colony Rd, Meriden

“Typical local pub with a welcoming atmosphere. I really love Tasha who is a bartender. She is very experienced at making a wide range of drinks. Brothers kitchen in this place is also good and offer a nice selection of wings. My only issue here is that I enjoy drinking my Wine out of a wine glass. This has never been a problem until lastnight when the bartender advised that the new rule is that at night she can only use plastic cups. I have bartended at a few locations and found this to be odd and not customer friendly if I specifically request my Wine in a glass. Just maybe something to consider because I'm sure beer drinkers would also prefer a chilled beer mug over a plastic cup as well.Overall a good place to enjoy a good time with down to earth patrons.“

“Friendly, kind, nice conversations.Ciders were good. To each its own tastes. We bought a 4 pack of the blueberry which was closely related to "passion fruit" cider.Pizza wasn't to my liking. It was very oily. My husband had to try to take it off. And it was doughy. I personally like my pizza crispy. She claimed it was. .. nope. The pig chips and nuts tasted stale. Suppose to be glazed with beer cider. I don't know, in this case maybe I'm the one with the issue. Though ! We did see the ability to order platter of cheese n crackers, but they were out.. Lol.It's okay. It was a Sunday and they seem to be very slow then. So.if you want a quiet place to just sit and enjoy your moment in quiet, then this is good to go. On Sundays.Vegetarian options: Seen that they have a vegan pizza“

“My friend suggested we go to Double Play Café last night after a concert at the Oakdale Theatre. There was a large crowd for a late on a Saturday night, and we sat at a high top table. We were cold from standing outside for a while at the concert and decided to have some hot drinks. I had a coffee. It was delicious. We then ordered some food. I had the avocado, mozzarella, caprice he salad. I enjoyed it very much. It was fresh and had a very nice balsamic glaze on top. I will definitely go back and try some other items on the menu.“
