“While I totally stood out from the crowd of customers, it felt like I was welcomed into another persons home for a good hearty meal.

I was fortunate to get there when the line was a few folks behind the food stations as I’ve been told the line can go out the door. They switch some of the menu items up daily as well, but generally keep it the same for certain items. You can taste the food is made with love.

The line staff are the best and almost all, or all, are volunteers. They won’t take no sass, but will gladly dish out their sass as if it’s candy on Halloween. They make you feel like you’ve been there 1000x times before even if it’s your first.

One thing that I wasn’t ready for was when I finished eating - the staff will come by and clean up your area. I was looking around for a long moment before someone stopped me and filled me in.

While I only went here once during my DC visit, I’m eager to visit again when I come back! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for soul food, are on a budget, and want to feel like you’re at home despite being far away from it.“

“This has been my go to place for lunch when in DC. I love the sampler platter with food representing the cuisine of the different native cultures in various geographic areas of the continent. They reflect how the peoples incorporated the available fish and animals and the types of grain and vegetation into their meals. Not inexpensive but a cultural as well as a gustatory experience.“

“Several different ‘food bars’ heavily weighted towards Asian choices (but not exclusively Asian). Atmosphere of a college casa. Clean, reasonable priced and the staff were friendly and helpful. Small hassle to get in the building (metal detector, show ID) but worth it.“
