“Phenomenal Bakery!!! The individual who assisted me (I believe his name was Tony). Decorated beautiful cupcakes for me on the spot for a last minute birthday dinner I was heading too that same day. EVERYONE at the dinner spoke about how delicious & beautiful the cupcakes were. The birthday girl later said it was the best Red Velvet Cupcake she has ever tasted in her life lol. Thank you for your kind, swift, delicious service!!“

Wedding Cake

“I had a great experience with 5-12! They were able to create an Indian-like design based on a few photos I sent them. The cake was the perfect size for our small party of four and was beautifully finished. I also really appreciate 5-12 making an extra trip out to their pickup site so I could get the cake at a more convenient time for me. My only other feedback was the cake was slightly on the sweet side and was a little dry by the time it was served. Regardless, 5-12 is definitely on my list of go-to custom cake places in the DC area.“

“Wow, what a cake Zymira made! It was my dad's 100th birthday which called for something extra special. He loves apple pies so I asked for an apple flavored cake using the numbers 1, 0 and 0, and decorations reflecting three passions of his: golf, music and, get this, the Holy Spirit. Zymira invented a recipe: a cake with apply pie filing inside! and she made THREE cakes, one shaped as a 1, and two shaped as 0s, and sat them on serving sheets with the golf/music/Holy Spirit themes! It was the centerpiece of our dinner table. Very very good cake: moist, and that apple pie filling a special surprise. My dad loved it!“

“Great experience! Easy to communicate with and Fantastic Cake!Ordered an 8” x 8” rum cake for my husband’s birthday. Watergate pastry was super easy to communicate with, their pricing was fair ($50).On pick up day everything was easy, and the employee at the shop was so kind.I’m personally not even a fan of rum cake (it’s his favorite) but we both ended up loving the cake!!! It was creamy, flavorful, flaky, and the perfect amount of sweet!10/10 recommend watergate pastry! And it’s fun to walk around the old historic building while you’re in the area :)Parking: Parking was ok, I was lucky and found a metered spot right outside, it cost a quarter.I’m not super parking savvy, so there probably were even better/ more abundant options than I realized.“

Birthday Cake

“I am from Scottsdale and was coming into town for my son's wedding. This was just a low key civil ceremony before the big bash. I searched Yelp extensively and settled on the bakers lounge. I called and spoke to the owner Katherine, explaining the situation. I told her that my you son and his husband have sophisticated palates and I left everything up to her. Katherine took care of everything and delivered the cake to the restaurant we were dining at. After dinner the beautiful cake appeared at our table and the grooms were really surprised. We have eaten a lot of really good cake but this cake was extraordinary. Pistachio cake with homemade raspberry and the most luscious buttercream. It was the perfect end to a lovely day. Thanks Katherine for making the day even more special“

“Love. I'll acknowledge up-front that while I have a bit of a sweet tooth, I'm particular about the level of sweetness, and most handcrafted dessert foods and drinks are just too sweet for me. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate and recognize a great cupcake, however. For my birthday I had my heart set on a carrot cake cupcake, and the Cakeroom has a pretty strong offering. The cake is a tad dry, but I actually find that perfect when you get SO MUCH frosting, you really need a balance. Flavor-wise the cake is very good, a classic lightly spiced carrot cake. The cream cheese frosting was just a bit sweeter than I prefer, since I like my cream cheese frosting with more of a tang. A cupcake I got on a whim was the strawberry cupcake - sometimes whims work out, sometimes they don't, and I'd say this one leaned on the "don't" side (it didn't). This one was too sweet all around, and the cake part, which had real strawberry in it, reminded me of what I'd expect strawberry cough syrup to taste like. Not getting that again for sure. My surprise favorite was the pumpkin cupcake, which also came with cream cheese frosting. This was a bit less sweet than the cake of the carrot cake cupcake, which made the spice a bit more prominent. The previously too sweet cream cheese frosting seemed almost just right here - was the pumpkin cake a better contrast? Maybe just a better batch of frosting? I couldn't tell you. But I'd definitely get this one again. My partner's favorite cake (generally) is yellow cake with chocolate frosting, and he really liked the cupcake iteration here. He also enjoyed the red velvet cupcake, but was most impressed by the vegan Oreo cupcake (he insisted that it's NOT cookies and cream so I'm making sure to represent it properly). He is not quite as exacting as I am about food, so I couldn't get much more detail on any of his cupcake opinions.“
