About Garden Cafe

The Garden Cafe is a cozy restaurant that offers a variety of seating options, including sofas for customers to wait for a table. Known for its pastries and coffee, the cafe also serves snack-sized meals such as the Quiche Du Jour and Autumn Salad, priced at $13.50 and $14 respectively. The restaurant can get crowded, especially during brunch, but they manage the crowd by providing numbers to customers and serving food directly to their tables. The portion sizes are reasonable for the prices, and popular choices include the Burrata Tomato Arugula salad and Tuna Poke. The Iced Matcha Latte with oat milk is a sweet and refreshing drink, although iced tea refills are not available. It is important to note that the cafe has exposed water cups sitting at room temperature, ready to be handed out for water.

Some recent reviews mention the limited menu, with items like the chicken pesto flatbread and avocado toast, the latter of which was noted to be tough to cut. The French Opera Cake received praise for its rich chocolate flavor and firm texture. However, other dishes such as the Tuna Steak Tartare did not impress, with complaints about tasteless avocado and a lack of flavor. Additionally, there were concerns about the quality of the Americano, which was described as lacking aroma. Overall, while the cafe has its highlights, there are mixed experiences regarding the food quality and service.

Everything we got at the Garden Cafe inside the National Gallery of Art was so good!! The flatbread pizzas were probably our favorites, but the tacos were also delicious and hearty. The pizzas came served as two half pizzas and a side of leafy greens, and I think it'd be easy to split it between two adults and still feel full. The tacos was a set of 3 and depending how hungry you were, I definitely think that was easy to split too and feel satisfied. The liberty lemonade in souvenir...read full review

Food does not come close to surroundings. Coffee (flat white) tasted like a kuerig, and they couldn’t even warm up an apple turnover. Sad

A very nice place to eat in the National Gallery of Art
The Garden Café at the National Gallery of Art is a convenient and pleasant place to eat during a museum visit. It is located on the lower level of the museum, right behind the north entrance, which makes it easy to find when you’re ready for a break. The café offers a fair selection of food, including tacos, salads, and flatbread pizzas, with most entrées priced around $15–20. Our group tried the BBQ taco set,...read full review
