AJ's on the Bayou Reviews
worst experience ever. was told the food was good and it got good review but the reality is it not worth it. I was highly disappointed. didn't even get to the food. Left before eating. Wait time was 20-30 minutes although there was many open tables where they sat other people. Sat us at a table which was not even cleaned. Told us to wait while they cleaned it. Did an awful job trying to clean it. Sticky and disgusting is what they gave us. I left immediately. Had at least 6 tables...read full review
I’ve been there a couple of times. The food and service is good. I think they’re very close to being awesome. My only complaint for the Shrimp and Grits is the shrimp are obviously frozen farmed, and small. The grits and biscuits are very good and well seasoned, they need bigger, fresher shrimp to make it a high quality dish. Definitely a popular place and I need to try some other meals.
By far the worst service I’ve ever had. We could hear the kitchen staff yelling that our appetizer was ready and our lazy waitress was no where to be found. Another waitress brought it to us after I asked if our waitress left for the day. After bringing our drinks, we only saw her when she brought the check. I had to go get my own to go box. AJ's on the Bayou provides a mix of experiences based on recent visitors. The staff received mixed reviews, but many praise servers for being friendly, attentive, and efficient. The outdoor bar area is a highlight, featuring excellent frozen drinks like the Lava Flow and a fun, casual atmosphere with great music. Live entertainment, trivia night, and Sunday brunch are popular, with amazing views of the bayou, sometimes including dolphins. Some guests love the reasonably priced, well-prepared food, like the chicken piccata and Tuesday tacos, while others note room for improvement in consistency. The seating, particularly the old plastic wicker chairs, could use an upgrade, yet the decor remains fun and fascinating. The bar area is perfect for college football, with TVs everywhere and live music in the evenings. Overall, AJ's on the Bayou offers a pleasant dining experience with a lively vibe, making it a great choice for locals and vacationing families alike.
